Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not sure about Dixon. We're OK for big forwards but still 4-5 good mids short. Yes to prestia. No to benell

Yeah OD would have a heart attack ... :):)

would love prestia, but he'll be one of the ones that rocket wants to keep. same with dixon.

players who might be on the market at the end of the year might be:

zac smith - they have a surfeit of ruckmen, at least one will move on at the end of the year

alex sexton - can't crack a game as a push-up half forward, i personally doubt that he's got the ability to play midfield; is quick tho

luke russell - vaguely similar to sexton, gc17 probably have too many of this type of player

sam day - will be a good player and they'd probably like to keep him, but he might want a fresh opportunity elsewhere

daniel gorringe - see smith

trent mckenzie - naughty boy apparently, ripper kick but he's not a massive ball gatherer - only averaged 16 disposals a game last year playing as a half-back / wing type, which is not enough (his role may have been taken by kk to some extent, so he may be available at the 'right 'price')

clay cameron - not for us, a third tall type

jesse lonergan - a genuine midfielder, has had a rotten run with injuries

who knows what gc17 will do. their list is average, with a once-in-a-generation player at the top, and o'meara and martin look like fantastic players both now and for the future, and bennell could be. i really like may, and rischitelli is a great hard-at-it mid, but honestly their list is far less impressive than gws.

GC will find plenty of willing trade partners at the trade table for all mentioned players. The Watts and Howe situations will determine if we are going to be players at the trade table table. If both sign on we don't have much to offer come trade time. I don't think Terlich, Toumpas, Grimes and a number of other fringe players command much currency.

Zac Smith would be a great get for us. I could only see McKenzie for McKenzie happening if we somehow secretly swapped them and no one noticed... would have Trent over Jordie every day of the week.

Howe for Bennell.

Howe + first rounder for Bennell + their 2nd rounder.

Didn't Watts sign a 3 year deal in 2013, in which case he is not out of contract until 2016?

I have serious concerns for the people who are saying they wouldn't want Harley Bennell at the Dees.

I would put him in a similar category as Garlett... at his best he is a mercurial player who can turn a game in a very short space of time. Like Garlett was at Carlton, I get the feeling Bennell is now disenchanted with life at the gold coast and would find his spark with a change of surroundings. Apart from this weeks drinking incident, what else has he done to warrant some of the comments on here that bring into question his attitude, that he is "just holding it all together" or that we should steer well clear of him? I'm sure many would have been saying the same about Garlett prior to his being picked up by the Dees, but where are his detractors now?

Same

The kid is a freak, just needs to be in a good environment which Gold Coast seems anything but these days

I'd take Bennell.

Garlett has been good this year (albeit not as damaging as we need him to be) and he seems to have turned his career around after a regressive year at Caaaaaarlton.

Roos can turn him around.

Watts or Howe and our first rounder for Bennell and their second rounder.

or

Watts + Toumpas for Bennell + first round pick

It might all come down to fresh environments.

I for one refuse to believe Bennell and Matera won't want to head back west, and the Crows have been into Aish since he was drafted.

It's unlikely we'd get any of those three.

Lonergan looks a possible cheap pick up due to injury and form from gc17.

Personally, from Brisbane, I'd be chasing Leuenberger as a free agent acquisition. They also don't have a surfeit of kids, or midfielders, so will be looking for the same sort of players that we have acquired in the last couple of years.

The very fact that Mitch Robinson has become a consistent midfielder for them says a lot about the state of their list.

Wouldn't go near Harley Bennell

Dion Prestia would be a good get

I think we need taller, stronger midfielders. Prestia is great but where does he fit in among Viney, Brayshaw, Jones, Petracca? We'd be far too heavy in the middle, which evidently is our problem now because teams like Freo stitch us up. We need more elite running mids. I'm not sure Prestia would be a good fit for us anymore. Two years ago, sure, but not anymore. We need more of an x-factor in the middle, not Nathan Jones 2.0.

People on here keep saying that, but no-one explains why. Would you have gone near Garlett last year before you knew he was on our radar?

I think lazy is harsh but yes, he does have quiet weeks but he is an absolute game changer.

Question is - can we get the "best Bennell" week in and week out ? Would a change of environment bring out the best in him more regularly ? I have no idea but geez - you would salivate at the prospect.

(I know that stats can be misleading but I just looked at his career stats and I would take that laziness every day of the week)

I'll play devil's advocate - if we can start a thread with us licking our lips at the prospect of raiding GC and their talent pool, it probably means we can't be upset with the prospect of Freo trying to get Hogan from us at the end of 2017.

I'm all for us getting more talent when they are OOC and so forth, but we then can't turn around and cry about it when it happens to us.

Obviously there is something behind that.

it is not obvious at all unless you would like to expand...

Why are you comparing Gartlett to Bennell?

Bennell is twice the player Garlett is. Hes a gun midfielder. He is averaging 24.6 disposals, more than any Demon, and hes supposedly had a slow start to the season. He has a career average of 21.8 disposals.

He kicks goals. he kicked 23 last season which would place him first at Melbourne.

Im blown way that people say they aren't interested in him.

He would be arguably our best player alongside Jones and T Mac.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
