Does anyone know when Riewoldt faked his getting knocked out? ie what quarter and rough time? Was at the ground and wouldn't mind checking it again on the replay

I love it when we play and win on a Friday night. It makes the weekend so much more enjoyable - and stress free ...

His press conference where he said that was the worst effort he can recall and they were insipid is the upteenth time I have seen him say that.

Too true, including the presser after last year's loss to us.

And nowhere else to put this, but a big thanks to the Captain, Russian and Dunny, all of whom were at my nephew's Auskick early this morning, and sang the Grand Old Flag with quite a big group of boys, arms all linked around one another, decked out in their MFC jumpers. Awesome!

The Garland holding the ball decision makes me question whether or not the umpires actually know the rules.

In no way was that a correct decision.

Just finished watching the replay - an absolutely terrible decision. That stupid umpire should be banished to the country league next week.

There were many horror decisions made by the same ump right throughout the game, He was either under instruction, had a huge bet on the Toiges or just a complete ignoramis. Either way the entire game was poorly umpired, especially that 3rd quarter.

Makes our win even better when you consider we only had 17 men on the field vs 19 for them.

Great win led by our superstar "leader" who was inspirational  (just needs to roll out of traffic on his right foot whenever possible! That left foot ughh  )

If the average person performed their day to day job as poorly as that no.24 umpire did last night, they would be fired.

I think the umpiring and especially the number of free kicks paid against us played into our hands. Richmond did play for frees and in many cases earned them. However, because of our physicality, we got them where you can beat a team in the place where ability doesn't matter as much: their heads. This was best displayed when that poser Arnot (you just know he spends most of his time at the gym in front of the mirror) got taken over the line a little high by Jonesy. He thought he would then test him out further. The reply he got was not the one he wanted. We gave away the free but the message it sent was enormous. It was basically: mess with me if you want but just remember that there will be consequences if you do.

What a Fing [censored] he is. I was a little vocal at that point...

Kent is going to be a big loss, I thought he set the tone for us early when we were looking a little flat. Uses his pace very well and his aggression is something we have lacked for a while. And some muppets around here wanted him dropped lol.

Probably the same muppets defending Watts.

Kent, Vandenberg, Brayshaw, TMac, Salem, Hulk, Viney (when fit and in) led admirably by the Jones Boy. All starting to become consistant contributors and never shirking a contest (*referring to the newer boys not the Captain).

Most in the team are taking their game to a new level physically this year.

Roos needs to make a hard call on Watts, and quickly, as he just isn't going with them here and becoming a substantial liability. We are effectively one man down in a physical contest sense when he is in the team.

Pedo is an instant in for Watts IMO. Not the greatest footballer but at least you know you will get a contest and no squibbing. I like Watts as a person, top genuine bloke off the field, and a highly skillfull ball user on the field, when he does get it. But mentally he has now proven many times he isn't up to the physicalities of this sport. It's time to give others a chance at proving they have what it takes at this level.

Did anyone see the Jetta concussion??

Roos just said he probably won't play next week so it must have been a decent one.

I reckon Howe clipped him with his knee when he took his obligatory hanger.

yes - and there we go, more "contests"! Down on scoring, but hey...

Keep telling it though - us muppets will eventually fold and shut up, won't we, and Roos must hear you eventually too. Physicality and contests is the real thing isn't it? Just keep repeating it, and names-calling anyone stupid enough to trust Roos' judgement. I mean, it's not as though he knows anything is it, or as though he's building the team successfully or anything. Probably just another muppet, Roos - shirking the hard call...

Angus Bradshaw is fast becoming my favourite player, what a pick up!

Little disappointed in that I felt we had a chance to really sink the boots in but didn't

err we did hit the post 5 repeat FIVE times. Would have made a big difference to the scores

I watched Jamar closely last night and whilst I think he was shaded around the ground by the mullet I thought he did a fabulous unheralded job. Won't get the votes but very influential with his competitiveness

As did Dawes when he went into the ruck - we got two centre clearances.

The young first year players are leading the way, in Vandenberg, Brayshaw and Hogan...finally some talent that performs from day one.

To be fair, Vandenberg is mature age, and Hogan is effectively into his third season.

I did have four Richmond bogans sitting next to me,two of which coughed constantly for the whole match so I'm a bit worried I may have caught something but it was worth it.

You should be right mate, I don't think feral is contagious.

beat the umps and the 5 posters. we were more determined in 3rd q when the game was to be won in wet conditions.Dawes in a great foil for Hogan. we finally have small forwards , Garlett and JKH. T Mac , our most improved player. VDB hard as nails, Brayshaw did not shirk contact. Feel sorry for Drummond but when he came off , he negated Kents loss in regard to rotation. Hogan, early days but a year off last gave him a chance to bulk up . A young Nick Reiwoldt, loves breaking up packs and has a tank. Howe should play HFF. Watts still mentally torched from qb game when he was too young to play.

Missed going to game but got up at 4am to take my daughter to dawn service.

Please. Just go away with that drivel

The umpires were pretty average, but I feel like they were consistently average. Two holding the balls stood out - the one against Garland, essentially in the Tiges goal square was atrocious and there was another against Richmond (can't remember who). So at least we got that howler back.

Umpires raped us, it was some of the most biased umpiring I've ever seen

I'll be over there for work a couple of weeks time and will need somewhere, somehow to watch the game vs Sydney?

Mate, Coco's Outback on Thorbekeplein usually shows matches (and sometimes has Paul Salmon sitting at the bar), or you can come over to my digs where my (Richmond supporting and now depressed) housemate has the Global Pass. There are many ways :)

Roos wouldn't be reading this rubbish mate. It's just a personal view/hope in that he acts sooner rather than later. (feel free to roll out predictable one liner...."thank god he doesn't...you have no idea!" etc etc  ).

Yes, he could be correct in keeping him and i might end up with egg on my face but Watts has had umptine chances to prove he has what it takes at AFL level (mentally/physically). To this point he has failed...and miserably so. I grimace everytime he gets near it and there are (and have been) very few players i would say that about (Morton is another that comes to mind) as i just don't know what sort of contest/committment we're going to see, if any.

It's a combative game and yes there's always going to a be many more contests in congestion with the nature of 120+ interchanges now. That's the way the AFL has designed the game like it or not. But regardless it's always been a physical game even for outside runners and skinny guys. Some lessor built guys will make it at this level (eg., Flower, Laidley etc) if they're willing to commit when it's their time to go, others wont.

As i have said and hoped all along, i really hope he finds this side of his game and ends up being a solid to great player for us...but it's been 6 pre-seasons and he is into his 7th on the field and it's still not happening. You can run but you can't hide on an AFL field. Better if he trys to find it at VFL level IMO. You can't play the loose man down back forever and that is what has happened here. Roos has asked something else of him and he hasn't been up to it till now. And while most of the other boys are lifting their game physically, Watts hasn't been able to go with them. In any team's progress there are likely to be casualties along the way robbie and some collateral damage. You can try and bring everyone along with you but some just wont make it. It's the nature of any professional "team" sport where the team is on the up and up from a low ebb.

Seeing is believing Robbie but i have severe doubts at this point.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
