Really the only embarrassing record that matters is 57+ years without a flag.
And 61 years since back to back, and 66 years since a “threepeat”

I see we went 13-0 in fact. My (narrow) argument is we had three very close wins up to round 7 (in 1956), including an eight point win, but this year no one has got closer than about 24 points. 1956 is a very good portent and a key year in demon history! On your other point I think it is The Eagles and Port we have to worry about most to measure our true worth. In any event it is a magnificent season and we still have an enviable list despite injuries.

One week at a time

Lance Franklin has never lost to Melbourne in his career.

EDIT -  That hoodoo ended in 2019 at the SCG.  My mistake.

We need him to come in this week and beat them.

Except for the last time he played against us.

Thanks, I forgot we had busted that one.  Of all the years we finally beat the Swans and Buddy it was in 2019 where we were a bottom 4 team.   ?

'Twas an Olympian effort either way!?

Beat Sydney on the MCG.

Almost 11 years. Last win was in August 2010 when we beat them by 70 points.

I think it was 8 losses and 1 draw dating back to 2011.

The Saints have had their chances in the last 20 years. You can lead a club to water but you can't make it drink.

We've been parched for a very long time.

Very sporting of you, Sunkn. Yes, the Saints possibly do deserve a lick of the ice-cream as well. 1966 wasn't it? Their last double-scooper with a cherry on top.

OK, here are a couple to keep us interested:

  1. Win more than 14 games in a H&A season - last time was 1990 (31 year drought).
  2. Win 17 or more games in a H&A season - we have never done this in our 121 previous completed seasons.

(If you're wondering about the 17+ game stat, Hawthorn have done it five times in the last 10 years).

We won 16 games in 1956 which equated to an 89% winning record in that 18 game home and way season. A 20 win season would be our record best in terms of winning percentage.

Onto our next opponent, we have a surprisingly poor 1-4 record against Essendon at the G since 2013.

The last time we won finals in consecutive years was in 1991 against Essendon at Waverley. Aside from GC Suns, we have the longest streak in that department. Hopefully that can be rectified next year.

Agree RPFC but who knows after the records already held by this club?

I’m not great with maths etc. Is this mathematically possible?

Sure it is we lose every game? We are then 11 :11  Isn't 12 the magic number

I could probably think of one club that would be capable of pulling off that disaster.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
