It'll be hard to do this year though; hawthorn seems hell-bent on knocking over an even bigger hoodoo. Believe it or not, they've never won four premierships in a row.

Isn't 3 enough for those bastards?

Haha by creeping I mean I know it's not going to happen this year, and probably not next year!

I went to that game with my brother in law. It is as clear as day that memory to me. Perhaps I haven't drunk too much single malt after all  !!!!!!!  Time is on my side.

I also was at that game as a 13year old. First VFL game I saw live. Family holiday and we also managed to see a game at Waverley. Now that place was truly a hole.

Okay people, get your thinking caps on. When was the last time we managed to beat at least one team from each state in a season proper ???  I can't recall it like ever.

Thank god Essendon beat the Suns today. Being the only side to lose to them this season would've ranked high in the embarrassment stakes.

Expand

To put some perspective on how far we've come, in 2013 we won two games and had a percentage about 4% points lower than Essendon right now. And that was with two expansion teams in the competition (which is why we were 17th and not 18th). That's a massive improvement in three years.

Broke a bunch of records last night that I can think of:

  • Three wins in a row
  • Beat Port
  • Beat Port in Adelaide
  • Make it through a season without 3 consecutive losses at any point (this, for mine, is as big as any of them. No losing patches. No extended drop offs in form).
Expand

By far my favourite. I mentioned it last week. 1964, 1998 then 2016. Not territory we frequent often.

Just so everyone knows, the last time we won four on the trot was back in 2006

Going back a bit but I remember us beating the Hawks at Princes Park on a rainy day in 1989.It was the last time I ever went there as I thought the place was a sh*thole.

That was a Queens Birthday game - I was only 7 at the time but went with my dad who had got some kind of corporate tickets I think because we were sat up the top undercover near the coaches box on a crappy Melbourne winters day. The ground was a mudheap but we beat them pretty convincingly from memory with Garry Lyon starring. I think I scored the Monday Night Replay of that game a couple of years ago.

I've got one to add...

The last time we beat the wooden spooners... Not since Roos has been at the club. Saints 2014, Blues 2015, Essendon 2016

Yeh i was in the forward pocket that day and watched Gazza kick a torp goal from just outside 50 on a mud patch. One of the best goals i've ever seen live and a memorable win

2013, when we beat GWS (and only just, thanks to our best ever quarter).

That's pretty sad, isn't it.

Unfortunately, I think we were beaten by the Giants in a another game towards the end of 2013.

Regardless, that is a terrible record to have. Hard to believe we haven't learnt from it since.

Our inability to beat EssUndone, Carlton and StKilda (and Norf) has and will impede our progress to becoming a top team.  Actually extremely embarrassing.

Those, and our inability to beat ordinary sides consistently at Doglands just sap supporters' emotions and hopes.

When we were possibly the most deserving team in AFL history to have not snagged the spoon, based on our body of work for the season.

Just when I thought I'd put that memory behind me.......

So, of all the embarrassing records we did break this year, which is your favourite? I think mine is not having lost three games (or more) in a row. Spreads the pleasure better through the pain.

That one, as far as 'records' go.  Winning 3 in a row was also nice.

Pretty hard to top the Hawthorn win for moments of the year (decade) though.  Not so much for the broken embarrassing record, just for the pure pleasure of the way the game unfolded.

Winning consecutive games was a big one, given how embarrassing it is that we went so long without doing it.

But the fact we've gone through the season without losing any more than two games in a row is IMO the best.

Goodwin may come under pressure if we drop three consecutive games.

He will not have to "get games into players" as much as Roos did.

He is taking over from a well liked ,respected man.

Hope he has the right stuff.

Non Dees related but a non the less embarrassing record.

Are the Tigers on track to beat our 186 at the cattery?
