Watts can ruck, he actually enjoys it....don't know whether Roos would risk it

He can, he's not bad either. Don't think they will do it though.

Watts against Mummy.

No...

Frost will stay in, not sure why some think he will miss out. That will only happen if Ped, Gawn or Pencil come in and that's not going to happen.

I don't neccasarily think that two changes are definate.

It could just be Dawes in for Toumpas, and give Bernie another week to be absolutely jumping out of his skin.

If not I'd say it would be Brayshaw by the way Roos was speaking.

A nice hard bodied senior experienced team to take on the young Giants.

I agree with you. Frost should be back up ruck. Because once the ball hits the deck he becomes and extra midfielder.

So maybe:

In: Gawn, Dawes, Vince

Out: Frost, Toump, Brayshaw

Mumford is a big challenge, if Jamar were to go down we would only have part timers.

I dont know, this is too hard!

more importantly, who are we going to bring in to tag the danger man Scully? Mckenzie?

Spencer would come in before Gawn, he is in better form, can't see Frost being out though

Spencer cant play fwd but Gawn can (a bit) so thats why ive gone him.

We'll need as much leg speed and competent midfielders as possible to match or beat GWS, so for those against the return of Vince I completely disagree.

Vince for Toumpas is a no brainer.

As for Frost he should be kept without a doubt. He's not only a valuable second ruck, his athleticism will be needed against Cameron and he understands best how their talls operate.

McCarthy and Cameron (+ 3rd tall being Tomlinson) both need to be shut down. Garland alone can eliminate McCarthy's influence, the other three defenders (Frost, McDonald, and Dunn) either need to rotate on Cameron (similar to Geelond vs. Riewoldt during their golden years) or double-team him with one blocking his run while also picking off the incoming inside 50's to generate quick rebounds for the mids (on the basis it doesn't create headaches elsewhere). As for other defenders Salem, Jetta, and Lamumba are required to shut down their vast array of midfielders come forwards (Smith, Griffen, Greene, Palmer, etc.).

I think the biggest question we should ask is, what do we want in attack? Would we prefer three tall options (Hogan, Watts, Dawes) or two at any one time.

Those we should look at are JKH or Kent. Someone suggested Vandenberg but I think his high half forward role and ability to win the ball around clearance and take on the midfield is invaluable.

Another option would be to drop Brayshaw and place Newton as sub as I see him as an immediate impact player but tires quickly.

Decisions, decisions.

Spencer is improving in that area, my point was Gawn is not in very good form, why Frost is there in the first place

Spencer will only come in if Jamar goes down, as he's purely a no.1 ruckman. During the preseason and NAB Cup, Gawn was given every opportunity to cement the 2nd ruck position and failed.

Frost displays the intangibles (2nd efforts) that don't show up on the stats sheet, which is why he's in the side. Even if he doesn't get the hit out, he competes at ground level. He also has pace to lose his opponent running forward. Unfortunately he's an average kick because he missed 2 gettable goals on Saturday. If he kicks them, everyone would be lauding him.

I'd probably go

Vince in for Toumpas

Dawes in for JKH

sub: Brayshaw

JKH very stiff, as he didn't do much if anything wrong and even had a hand in some of our best goals (ie. the inboard kick to assist Tyson was sublime) but I sometimes worry about his defensive efforts. He gets brushed aside a bit easily and is behind both Garlett and Kent in defensive efforts. Make him go back to Casey to work on his tackling and forward 50 pressure I say. Can't wait to see him come back in the side as he's fantastic.

This is a real head scratcher.

Well if he goes in and out then how is he supposed to win the Brownlow!??

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
