In: Vince, Dawes

Out: Toumpas, Frost

I advocated keeping Toumpas previously, but I can't see who else could go out on that performance. Despite the fumble I still think he's stiff.

Frost for Dawes only on team balance. It has to be a tall and there are no other candidates. Don't know who rucks for 5 mins per quarter though. Hogan?

Frost is second ruck so can't see him going out. Agree with Vince for Toumpas. Perhaps Kent will go out for Dawes due to concussion.

Yes! We may be in the 8...maybe top 4.

I don't care that it is only rnd 1 and it may not last!

But it will be great as long as it lasts!!!!!!

Can't see us going to so much trouble to recruit Frost only to drop him from a winning squad? He showed great run.

Sends the wrong message to drop him.

In - Bernie

out - Toump

As much as I wanna see Dawes and Hogan cracking opponents heads cant drop anyone for him at this stage

See who is sore I guess...

Hogan rucking will put a few hearts in mouths - I don't think they have trained him for that - neither Dawes.

I think you are looking elsewhere for the bloke replacing Dawes.

Maybe Vanders?

Jeez, Chris might be at Casey next week...

He won't, but I think we'd all agree that whoever makes way will be bloody unlucky.

[censored] Dawes, earn your way back in.

Vince in, Notwines out.

The selectors have a tough job ahead of them.

You would think Dawes and Vince should come in but at whose expense?

Possibly one of JKH & Jimmy Toumpas but I don't think it's both.

Vanders was playing a very forward role...

And doing it well! He stays!

Vandenberg was absolutely brilliant

The contested mark, the smother, the goal

Zero chance Roos or anyone else would even entertain the though of dropping him

Booo

And doing it well! He stays!

Drop Vanders?! What? He's not leaving the team until he strings together 3 stinkers at a minimum.

I guess Roos has to decide whether he wants more vets in this young side, or whether to not drop a player who has played well.

I have played/captained/coached in good teams - in form players get dropped.

We are just not used to that...

This must be what it's like trying to select the side in good teams. Been a while since we've had clear best 22 players running in the twos and wondering how the heck to get them in.

Toumpas for Vince is a no brainer.

Frost is the only option for Dawes; Brayshaw, Jamar and Kent are the only other players with less than 13 disposals and all played their role well. Jamar obviously is safe. And I think swapping for either of the other two mixes up Tan balance a bit.

It wouldn't surprise me if we go with Dawes for Kent and ask Frost to pay a more mobile role on a flank rotating into the middle etc.

Dawes was silly to get suspended and had an ordinary NAB Cup and an ordinary 2014.

He can earn his spot in the VFL. That's how good teams roll.

It is a massive call.

In some ways I'd like to see this point made. It would be an amazing moment for the MFC. But on the other hand, assist from occasional on field brain snaps, Dawes is a serious and well respected leader of the playing group and (probably only for another few weeks) our number one forward. It is hard not to find a spot for him.

Good teams also play their best 22 and disappoint some blokes (and fans).

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
