EXCLUSIVE: THE Western Bulldogs are at the centre of an explosive betting scandal in which punters, including some players, allegedly backed the Dogs to lose.

The Herald Sun understands the AFL is investigating claims some Dogs players were involved in a suspicious betting plunge on the Demons-Bulldogs match in Ballarat on 14 March.

Melbourne won by seven points.

It is believed up to ten people, including players, may have taken part in the suspicious betting.

One player in particular will be more seriously scrutinised.

An AFL spokesperson said the leagues policy was not to comment on integrity related matters.

The bets may have been placed earlier in the week before the teams were announced. If the Dogs players had inside information on team selection, a betting plunge on Melbourne would be suspicious. The punters would have been sh#tting themselves in the last few minutes.

Good luck proving that, they almost came back from 45 points down,

maxwell and shaw got fined and suspended for giving info re player positions at the start, first goal kicker

A whole lot of people, including some on here, say we tanked after being in front when the final siren went...

The part of the The Australian article that I find ludicrous is that it states that the players self reported. You'd only self report if you were already under investigation and know you are about to be caught. There should be no lesser penalty for self reporting.

Let's hope we don't sucked into this controversy somehow!

According to purple on the footy show, Lachie hunters betting account was used by a Footscray vfl play to place a multi bet which one of the bets was against the dogs in the Melbourne game

Fair dinkum, Purple is an absolute [censored].

his main story tonight after THAT summer of drugs etc is Lamumba having a meeting 2 years ago asking what would happen if he tested positiive to marijuana after possibly passive smoking it.

no suggestion he did smoke it.

is he [censored] kidding? what a story out of nothing. honestly.

It was a very weird angle from purple. Lumumba had done nothing wrong so it was a non-story before it began. Waste of time.

Sounds like a convenient excuse. For starters, who the hell gives out their account number and password on their betting account?

As an aside. Mark Hunter (Lachy's old man) was the bookmaker who took Damien Oliver's bet that led him to be suspended. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Barrett could have put up the Lumumba rubbish to take the spotlight off Bulldogs c up.

That's the way they like to wallow in it. Almost like adrenalin...

Posted

seriously how dumb are some of these players. Before the season and when your career begins you get a talk on betting and how its not on. Everyone knows you cannot bet. and to bet on your team to lose, thats even worse.

Posted

If the only dirt Barrett has on Melbourne is Prince has rastafarian mates, then we must be on the right track.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
