I love reading peanuts on Facebook and other social media saying "imagine Howe up forward taking marks and kicking goals. Being played out of position at Melbourne. Would be a star at [insert club here]". These people are the type of armchair supporters who watch the Sunday footy show for their weekly analysis of the games and see 'highlights Howe' taking a screamer. Plain and simple, he can't play forward coz he can't kick for [censored]. Has never kicked a goal when needed. Constantly lets himself down in front of the sticks.

He kicked a decent goal from the boundary line against GWS when it was required so what you're saying is a gross generalisation, not to mention, rubbish.

If I was GWS there's zero chance I'd trade McCarthy. He has 2 years to go on a contract and sometimes you have to set standards as a footy club.

One gets the distinct feeling that Melbourne are trying to move Howe on.

Just as they did with Moloney, Sylvia, Frawley and I'm pretty sure Garland.

I think even if Howe had wanted to sign, we would have low-balled him anyway. We recognise that he has some market value, whether it's just or not it's there, and we want to strengthen our midfield and our general list.

How about Seedling?

How about [censored]? :P He was an arrogant little [censored] when I coached him.

I'm open to Seedsman too but if we do take him I refuse to refer to him (like most Pies fans) as Seeds or The Seed.

What about Lez? We'll call him that again and hopefully Lumumba cracks it and [censored] off again.

No from me on Seedsman, while his best can gain you 700m, it's rare. And if Roos wants competitors, Seedsman doesn't tick that box at all.

Would love to get Maynard for Howe, but Collingwood have a habit of holding on to good, young players. Idiots.

Would it be reasonable to assume the club lost interest in retaining Jeremy after he put off contract talks and shopped himself around?

Roos was pretty clear about only wanting genuine, dedicated competitors with a thirst to improve the MFC in 2016.

Look at the GWS game

Kicked one against the Saints to put us in front with a minute and a half to go.

Cool, glad you found the one and only time. Look at that last GWS game and his kick after his amazing mark. That sums up his talent. Amazing highlights package, can't kick for [censored]

I suspect we'll get a pick in the 30-40 range for him. About right.

I wouldn't think So if Dawes was a low 20 pick so is Howe about pick 25 for me

I would think not. Roos and co are well aware of the current landscape and players putting contract talks on hold and exploring their options. It is where the competition and player movements have moved to.

To me it is more that they see "x" amount of value in Howe and have a fixed idea of what we will pay. I think they also see that Howe is a bright shiny thing that may attract interest above his actual worth from other clubs.

Agreed

I have been saying this all year, Howe + Pick 6 for a quality midfielder. I am sure Roos is selling Howe as we speak, after having him (and Garland) bumped up about 10 spots higher than they should have been in the BnF.

What a goose you are Leoncelli 36. You couldnt be more wrong.

Howe kicked a goal from the boundary at the 32min mark ofthe 3rd qtr against Geelong when we were only 5pts up. Kicked another at the 4min mark of the final qtr.

Howe do you like you humble pie served?

We picked him up using pick 33.

I don't think we would get much better for him now if traded.

Hopefully he is used as steak knives to get a good deal done.

Yeah, good point. Fyfe is only worth pick 20 too then, right?

So by your reasoning we should trade Gartlett (some terrible misses for goal) and some bad fumbles.

All of our players made mistakes through the year and if we got rid of them we wouldn't have a side.

The only reason for the hate on here is that he was testing the market as all players do when their contract runs out.

I thought Howe took some great contested marks in both the forward line and down back not "species" but strong marks in packs

I also thought that he wasn't the worst player that played this year and the footy dept must have agreed as he has played every game for the past two years when others have been dropped or overlooked.

I hope he stays. The grass isn't always greener.

How do you expect Melbourne get better if you want to hold onto players like Howe?

He's 25 - he's not going to improve any further - and he has 1 trick. He's an ordinary shot for goal and a very poor field kick.

He's also, like Watts, one of the players that have been there for years now that continually go missing when the game is on the line. Did Howe touch it against Hawthorn, West Coast, Freo? What about all those matches we've been out of the game by quarter time? Where's Howe been then?

It appears Roos is going to get rid of Howe, Watts and Toumpas and replace them with goers like Melksham and Bugg. The grass might not be much greener but at least these blokes will have a go every week.

Freo will trade pick 18 for McCarthy from GWS.

Maybe MFC could grab Tom Sheridan from the Dockers.

Yeah, apparently really good mark under pressure.....

Ridiculous post. The whole team went missing on all those first quarters. You're blaming Howe?

I'm no Howe apologist and he has deficiencies AND if we can improve by trading him, great. But your dismissal of his performances is poor. Averages 80pts against Freo in DT (not the be all and end all) and thats nearly more than anyone else.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
