Clubs shop around players every year, so nothing wrong with out of contract players testing the waters, and seeking a big payday. And how many players have joined us recently for the same reason. Do you really think that they "wanted to play for us", or was the almighty dollar the attraction?

clubs do indeed. Apparently Howey baby has been doing his own lil promo for a while. That little double act with his manager...kicking goals there.

Doesn't seem to be any takers at where he thinks his ability sits. That says everything really.

Seems his decision making off the field resembles that on field.

I dont ask anyone to agree with me. I don't rate him nearly as high as some here on DL do and am miles off where the man himself sees his value.

They're just opinions; his as much as mine.

I dont think hes happy playing back and imho was seeking fwd time in another team. No one seems that interested atm.

If he stays with us he'll need to pick his socks up and round out his game a bit. He might struggle to find a relevant role otherwise.

I'm not sure about Howe. I posted earlier that a reality check may turn him around but, of course, a great offer would be hard for the club to refuse.

turn him around?

crikey, he had all the incentive to do it this year and showcase himself

You're right Daisycutter but there's also the motivation that can come from a setback, from wanting to save face. Didn't hurt Dustin Martin.

but dusty just continued his good form (and got a nice pay rise)

if howe stays and is disappointed he might just do the well worn melbourne thing and coast until his next contract year

He'd get to'coast' a bit closer to Westernport than PPB !!

Reported on SEN that Howe met with Collingwood today. With their depth of young mids is there anyone we might be interested in?

Would look at one of their young half backs...Oxley, Langdon or Maynard.

Geez, I'd be looking for a bit more than that.

Is Howe worth more than that?

you stirrer you lol

Good q though

Id put Howes worth at swap for a promising younger kid ...possibly unable to get much time in a good midfield plus an upgrade of say 2nd round pick.

We need some rebound off HB and someone who is a good kick...Maynard is young but has a really good kick on him. I don't think they would like to see him go and at this stage Howe maybe a touch more value, in a year that will more than likely change.

We need to do what's best for our future and look at bringing some really good players in.

Howe for Seedsman?

Howe and our 3rd rounder for Nathan Freeman?

Interesting possibilities.

Forget Seedsman, not good enough to take us forward. Freeman I'm not convinced with but haven't seen enough.

Little confused when people start bantering around 'loyalty' and money in the same sentence.

The two operate in different spheres altogether. If your current employer that you've been working for 6 years said you're worth $50 an hour and all of a sudden a recruitment agency said another 3 or 4 companies are looking to acquire your services for $75.

WHY would you feel loyal to your current employer when they're offering you less?

Clubs don't keep paying these guys bills post retirement.

I like what I've seen of Seedsman. It's not uncommon for a young player to have a poor year. Gaff had a terrible third year.

Sometimes it's beneficial to look at a player's strengths and not just concentrate on their weaknesses.

Having said all of that, I'm hardly a Seedsman expert.

One gets the distinct feeling that Melbourne are trying to move Howe on.

That applies to anyone who hasn't signed a new contract and possibly a few contracted players.

Whether we like it or not, that's the way the game of list management and team building works in the AFL these days and all clubs are involved.

There is a little bit of that, but I also think the club is no budging on it's valuation on him with the contract on the table. We know going forward how important the cap room is and, while I'm sure the club are happy for him to stay, he isn't a player we won't compromise the salary cap for.

What about Moore for Howe.

Both take a good mark and both forwards.

Also old man loves Melbourne as well seeing as he played for us, didn't he.

Got to be fair Eddy.

He hates Melbourne and has never been back to the club. When did you make up your information?

No question about that in my mind. Howe could have signed ages ago but wanted to "test the market". He can't complain about not feeling the love if we aren't offering him a contract anymore. He made his bed and he can lie in it.

That's actually not true either. He was at our 150 year celebrations. He was on SEN yesterday and said he enjoyed his time at MFC, even though in hindsight he probably would've have stayed at Collingwood.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
