Hear ye, hear ye! Jeremy Howe has been formally allocated a Demonland 'golden ticket' for the upcoming 2015 AFL season. It is hereby decreed that any valuable on-field performance IS NOT expected, and at the conclusion of the season his paltry contribution wil be ENTIRELY EXCUSED. Despite the fact that he is expected to be fit and available for selection for round 1, his position in the 22 will be largely symbolic, as sports science 'experts' have deemed it impossible for Howe to perform given his 'conditioning' has been 'interrupted'. With two months of pre-season training remaining, it is expected that several other key players will join Howe in golden ticket certification, and as such, their extremely low quality contribution to season 2015 will also be held to no account in any post-season reviews.

No golden ticket required. He got the crucial pre xmas training block in, not to mention all the camp bar the last session.

I guess it comes down to when a reason is an excuse or just a reason and whether one has common sense and can apply it.

This from the bloke who wrote the post of the century a few years back on ho we weren't to criticise the team as they were so young...

It isn't the interruption that is the problem, it is the possibility of getting re-injured due to Howe's playing style.

So an injury like this isn't going to really affect Howe's performance in 2015, but it will increase his chance of re-injury, which will affect his games played.

If he did re-injure, then I'd be worried. But as it stands, this isn't an issue.

well if he plays most games and has a sub-par year, watch how it often it will be trotted out as an excuse

Possibly, but some around here would think that having both legs amputated wouldn't be an acceptable excuse.

now you're speaking my language

available for selection = available to perform

Sylvia and Maloney were often legless and played alright

If Howe has problems.

Watts has no chance of playing.

Where does one get one of these golden tickets?

I could handle one as a supporter of the MFC.

I would dearly love to have a year off worrying about my football teams inability to win more than 2 - 4 games a year.

I love this topic of debate, although he will miss 3 weeks he will be back on running duties shortly and even probably play pre season matches and will not really miss enough time to have the detrimental effects of missing major sessions of pre season can have on a player.

Whilst this post has a fair amount of taking the urine, I am yet to see someone post a logical reason as to why someone who has their pre season limited is more likely to play a consistent 22 games than someone who hasn't. Clearly a full pre season is the best thing for a player looking to play 22 games at an AFL standard and puts them in the best position to make the most out of the season.

Nobody is excused as far as i am concerned

This is Roos 2nd year.

Put up or leave. Should have been the attitude 8 years ago.

I got howled down by certain posters long ago, but you cannot cotton wool an AFL Club.

It is a brutal game you accept to play...

I'm happy for Howe to extend his preseason, so that he can play the last 15 games at full fitness and play well, rather than his previous history of having a full preseason, playing 22 games of the inconsistent stuff.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
