I am in the process of doing the 2015 Banner and wanted to get a sense of who people would like to see up there. In the end it will be my decision but some guidance and input would be appreciated. I could only list 20 players in the poll so I didn't put any first year demon players/new recruits on the poll. I also left out a few players and left the last option as "other please specify".

You can only vote once. This is intentional.

Nathan Jones is not listed because he is going up.

I also have a poll question on whether you think a first year/new recruit should be up there and then if so who?

I will be including Robbie and Jimmy into the banner somehow.

Please don't reply that players should earn it because this is a fan site and there are players going up there so deal with it.

I think this year we should only Have the Captain, Robert Flower and Jimmy. How do I vote this way? If I tick "other" it asks me to specify but wont allow me to make any comment?

look forward to your thoughts.

Wondering whether we should wait a few days/week and see who is in the leadership group. An LG person doesn't have to be on the banner but it would be good if their name was in the list of 20. eg HL not in list but may well be in LG

I just assumed people would comment in the thread in regard to who the other should be.

I will be taking this into account. Do you know when the leadership group is likely to be named?

The purpose of the poll was to get a sense of who the must haves should be and that is why I only allowed one player to vote for.

Not sure of date for cap/co-cap and LG announcements but club said after the GC camp so i'm guessing it isn't too far away.

I would have thought that as he has not yet played an AFL season game yet, Hogan should possibly be included in the list of new recruits, despite the fact that he is not really "new"?

please, only put our success stories up there,,,,,,,,,, recent first, Tulip, Jimma, Sean White, Captain NJones, some Legends of our Great Club & maybe fill spots with our most recent cups, which could slowly be replaced as we unearth some tried & tested AFL champs.

Isn't it sad that N.Jones, Jamar and Dunn are basically the only players on our list who have played their careers at the MFC and can be trusted to go out every week and be solid AFL-worthy senior players. We have Cross, Vince and Lumumba also but we had to import them. It shows just how badly we have failed to manage our list and build a side. When you consider the corresponding groups at the top clubs you realise that this is the whole reason we stink

I voted "other".

If you are going to put a mix of current and past players on the banner then I suggest you keep it to those who have achieved something meaningful. Our captain has, three time winner of the best and fairest (admittedly not against the strongest group of players) qualifies him.

Robbie has.

Jimmy has.

And David Neitz has. Unquestionably. Most number of games for our club. Most games as captain. Most goals for our club. A two time All Australian. Loyal in difficult times and just a ripping person. Many may not know but David received a career ending neck injury in round 5 2008 in the final year of his contract. As such he was entitled to something in the order of one years pay as compensation and of course his salary (contract) at that time was significant as he was captain. The cost of that compensation was the liability of the club and as we all know our financial position was poor at that time.

David declined the payment. It cost him many hundreds of thousands of dollars. He had been playing footy for all his life; his career and earning capacity was over and in all likelihood he would never earn that sort of money again. But for the good of the club and at significant personal disadvantage he passed on the money.

You'd go into battle with Neita knowing he'd always cover you. He's never received the recognition he's deserved IMO and now would be a terrific time to recognize his achievements and contribution - both on and off the field.

Without disrespect Paul Roos is a Jonny come lately as far as our club is concerned. Dom Tyson has achieved nothing by comparison (and I love him). And Lynden Dunn? Drafted in 2004 and has put together 139 games. Having Dunny up there would just remind me how poor we have been.

Let's recognize Neita, he deserves it.

Hard to argue with any of that.

it is interesting to hear this about Neita.

There has been some arguments around him being a champion but I have always answered it in two ways - has he been a champion of the game ? To me the measurement of this purely how he performed in games - I don't think he rates up there with the other great forwards like Ablett, Lockett and Carey. Is he a champion of our club - in every conceivable way...yes. The measurement is so much wider - not only his specific contribution with ball in hand. His behavior and commitment to our club both on and off the field was exemplary ( besides one little indiscretion). He was loyal, played many games under duress because the club needed him, led by example and was a great voice for the club both on and off the field - and a more humble bloke you couldn't hope to meet. Always more interested in talking about others rather than himself. B Bob's post just adds more weight to how I feel about the big bloke - no problem at all with him being on the banner.

Why not just Nathan Jones as the central figure.

Absolutely no disrespect to those that have recently departed, all of them were my favourite players at some stage in my childhood, but can we just start 2015 with just our current captain and club champion, and no departed champions on it? None of us will ever forget the legacy that Stynes and Flower left behind, but we need to move on. 2015 should be the year that change is obvious (it could be argued that it was obvious in 2014), it's time we look forward to the next chapter forward of this great club, not backwards.

I wouldn't be against a couple of background images of "in play" moments featuring some current team members.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
