The only way Petracca will be a bust is through injury. I can only assume you've had no exposure to him at all to even suggest he could be a Watts or a whipping boy.

There are plenty of ways a young player can be a bust besides injury ProDee.

It was sugested to me this morning that the only reason we might not take Parish is that we know we'll be getting Prestia in 12 months time and want to make certain of Curnow.

For that to be the case we would obviously have to have Prestia's agreement and also have some good intelligence about the health of his knee and his ability to come back after the injury to at least the form he was showing last year before those issues emerged.

It's always possible but I'm skeptical.

And what do we have of trade value to give up for Prestia next year?

Generally a mist descends upon me when trade calculations are discussed so I don't quite get how we secure Prestia if indeed that's the plan.

Bigfooty's Knightmare actually now believes Curnow will slide out of the top 10 and is suggesting he will be taken at 11 by the Blues with us going for Clayton Olliver at 10 after Parish at 3.

I like that.

I occasionally have a look at his phantom drafts. There's a fair bit of guess work in the whole thing.

Not a big wrap for Knightmare but i highly doubt Curnow will slip out of the 10 personally.

Snoop Dog has us taking Ben Crocker at pick 40 in the BF Phantom. Watch his highlights reel and he looks quite the player - kicked the winner for Vic Metro against SA. Played mainly forward in the Champs but seems he is mainly a midfielder for Oakleigh in the TAC Cup. Does need to work on his kicking a bit but is a nice mark, particularly 1 on 1.

It might sound as if I'm flogging Inside Football but the pre draft edition is always good value and I would like to direct you to an interesting article written by Brian Waldron on why he loved trade time.

He points out that he was always most comfortable with recruiters that were open and honest in their dealings (specifically mentioning Craig Cameron as one of these) and I think our current people are in the same category. This year's dealings suggest they already have a good rapport with the Suns and if Prestia, who will be out of contract this time next year, wants to leave and we want him, then I don't think a transfer will be difficult to arrange.

In fact, I don't think arranging a transfer will be a major issue if we wanted to secure Prestia when his current contract ends.

I can't see us overlooking Parish. It just doesn't make sense to me. Essendon won't take both Curnow and Weideman, so I suspect one gets through.

I'm also sceptical about the Prestia scenario, although I suspect the club already has a very good idea as to our likely chances of luring him.

Ta Whispering. I'll take a peek.

If we look to get Prestia we will have to use 2017's 1st rounder+. GC have our 2016's already. Could be worth it. I now think we will pick up Parish for his quality outside work plus good o the inside. I think the probability of him making it is high and we could not take another bust. He is a natural footballer. I think there will be a quality tall forward available at 7.

Well we all presume it will be the 2 talls to Carlton and Brisbane and then the 3 academy kids are commonly reported as going in the top 10.

So after that it's a matter of what the Melb, Ess and Gold Coast do with the 5 live picks.

Gold Coast just picked up Jarrad Grant, and whilst a delisted free agent shouldn't change your top 10 pick I think the reverse might be true. If they were going to grab Curnow or Weideman they might not have signed Grant.

Of the live picks in the top 10 I'd probably rank them as Parish, Curnow, Weideman, Oliver, Francis, Milera, Mathieson and so obviously 2 of those have to fall out. If Gold Coast bid on Hipwood that might make 3 who fall out and our pick would be pick 11.

I think we will start to learn some more over the next week or so but it depends on us and Essendon. We don't leak much and Essendon leak dodgy info so it's hard to get a line on.

As I understand it the GC will have quite a few early picks in next years draft, if so then swapping for early picks in the following years draft maybe attractive to them to spread their player ages and pick up some of the best in each draft.

As for parish, he looks good but I do like to look of oliver, he is a bit of a brute, still gets rid of the ball even when tackled and only played half a season and won the morish medal. What would he have done with a full season,

It's all very complicated.

GC have a highly rated kid coming through the academy which will work for us.

A suite of picks is just as valuable to them as a singular first rounder when tallying points.

The Snoop Dog? Wow, I had no idea he had his head around the draft.

Does anyone have a link to the AIS academy vs northern blues game? Thanks :)

WJ posted the link to this game in the 'Pumping for Parish' thread.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
