Father sons in this (and other) drafts

Obviously Billy Stretch is at the club and will be officially selected on Thursday.

But today I read that Brayden Manyard's father played (IIRC) 8 games for the club before going on to become a SANFL star at Glenelg.

And Tom Lamb's dad played 4 games after being an under 19.

Obviously they aren't eligible under the father son rule and both will almost certainly go between our picks 3 and 40.

Is there anyone else in this years drafts or previous drafts who's fathers (or other relatives for that matter) played for the red and the blue?

I'm pretty sure (the Pies) Ben Sinclair's father played 50 or so games. It's really just nostalgia, but any names out there?

Darcy Moore's the big one this year, think you got the other's from this year's pool.

Jarryd Lyons is one drafted in recent years.

Yep, just forgot to mention Moore.

Seems some of our players of the 70s/80's have done a good job raising some decent footballers, just not father sons!

At least we haven't had a bad luck story with someone on 90 odd games like the dogs with the Reid's.

I have to say I think Gary Lyon has let us down by not pushing his three boys to become elite players. Imagine the joy at the club if we had three Lyon boys charging about the field winning us matches.

Come to think of it, did Junior have a son at any point? I'd love to be able to cheer on Junior Junior.

Carlton have three GSOS coming up. The first next year. I've heard are very good prospects.

No credit to the Silvagni family for name creativity though. Jack, Tom and Ben. Wow.

What about the son of our Senior Coach who is in this year's draft? Surely that could be as persausive argument as past players [especially if it convinces our coach to hang around the Club longer in some capacity]!

Hmmm. Didn't Angus Brayshaws dad play a few games for someone else?

Depending on the state. For example if Victorian, to be eligible the father would have to have played a minimum of 100 games.

Bound for Glory website said this about him at the start of the 2014 season:

Melbourne will be salivating over eligible father-son selection, Jake Lovett, who is the son of former club champion Brett. Although a different type of player to his father, Jake is a high-possession winning on-baller, with damaging disposal and a tendency to be aggressive. The only downside is that he the Dees will have to wait another year, as he is not eligible until 2015.

As a matter of interest, how old is Dustin Fletcher's oldest son? And is he a prospect? If i recall correctly, Essendon has had a Fletcher or a Watson on its list every year since 1967 when Ken Fletcher began his career (apart from a couple of years when Tim Watson had an early retirement before coming back to win another premiership in 1993). It would be amazing if that dual dynasty were to continue.

It seems to me that Essendon and Geelong have had the most success with fathers and sons. Is it just luck or skillful development?

Are you Serious? I know them very well, brilliant kids who like their footy, but don't love it. And the family is wrapt with it, the pressure on kids and especially father sons is massive, I think it's great, how many on this website have followed their fathers career?

I love the FS romanticism, I'm first to cheer and be rapt for our sons of guns!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
