Just heard 3aw saying Howe might be on the move next year?

Hes not imperatively essential.... he can be traded

If the case I hope he is dropped first sign he shows of being disinterested. Not keen to see a Frawley 2.0 prance around next year

I thought you meant that he may be moving to the forward line again.

But seriously, whilst I like him he is of course tradable depending on what is offered.

Did they offer any source/credible info? Or just some wild line based on GWS last minute offer?

GWS offered $650k and pick 7 to melb it was rejected by us apparently was very late in trade week, but Howe has now put off contract talks till end of year unless we make a very good offer its all on 3aw website

Frawley? $cully ?

Hope he puts in and forces us to make an appropriate offer, OR GW$ make us a trade for a decent mid.

Sigh, another year of second guessing a player's contract status. Howe distracting...Now we will have hundreds of DL pages putting every Howe move/game under a micro-scope. Sigh.

Does that make sense? How do you listen to what the club has to offer if you "put off contract talks"?

It seems to be largely speculation with the facts being that Howe declined an offer from GWS and isn't interested in talking about a new contract with us just now. The rest is speculation based on this. We know without a doubt that the Hawks and Cats will make a play for him if he's still uncontracted at the end of the 2015 season because they both regard us as a feeder club for their elite teams. Probably thee would be other clubs sniffing around as well. He's the sort of players any side would like to have. I think it may be a little too early to panic just yet though.

Let's please not go through another Chip style melodrama. The Giants came knocking, both club and player said "no thanks". The rest is speculation.

It's basically a nothing story. I'll be quite surprised if he doesn't re-sign.

Yes he's on the move - back to the forward line - that's the whisper.

With Harry O he's no longer required as an attacking defensive option.

So he will act as fourth mobile tall up forward.

Bear in mind also that he's not a Free Agent of any sort, so we would hold the best hand in trade negotiations.

Unless a Dane Beams, Paddy Ryder or Allen Christensen situation arises where the player nominates their preferred club and they eventually get there, usually at less than their 'true' trade value. I am yet to be convinced of MFC desire to play hard-ball in trade situations. Anyway, I think its only conjecture.

Am I the only one that thinks pick 7 would be overs anyway, with pick 7 we could have drafted Brayshaw, McCartin and still possibly lever or Laverde or Duggan or Cockatoo

Howe is good, but his more flashy than game changing. He brings people through the turnstiles, but at the end of the day he doesn't own a position, he instead floats, meaning that he is replaceable

Pick 7 for Howe could not have been offered.

The only thing more unbelievable is we knocked it back.

Heard from a few sources that it was in fact offered, but too late to do anything. I would have said yes immediately. Decent player, but no way is he worth a top 10 pick. Think he'd be a gun in a top 6 side though.

I said at the time GWS were p ricks throwing bombs at the last minute with no intention or chance of getting a trade done. They simply wanted to divert everyone's attention for 2015 from the fact the whole comp will be coming after their players.

I hope they die on the vine that stinking rotten carcass of a team.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
