It's a very thin draft. Talent is decent up until about pick 30ish, then it falls away quite sharply (there will still be some rough diamonds dug up late).

The top 30 this year however, lets just say it's no 'super-draft'. As i said it's a rather shallow draft (so it would seem, won't truly know until a few years down the track)

I'd love to see some analysis on the "hit rate" of picks in the 20-25 range vs the 38-43 range. I expect it would show not much difference

I'm comfortable with this for the same reason I was comfortable with downgrading early picks for Tyson: draft picks are monumentally overrated by footy fans.

For a pick like 23 you hope that the player will end up being a 200 gamer, but it's obviously not guaranteed.

I'm confident that Frost is going to be a big (pun intended) part of our backline for the next decade, he fits our need, he's already been in the system for a couple of years and is ready to go from day one. St. Kilda would have taken him in the psd, no doubt about it.

We did the right thing.

In our case over the last 8-10 years that is very true. Most of our early selections are either gone or not doing a lot. We seem to have had more success later in drafts.

I am not sure why this is other than to select badly early on when the pressure is on to get it right. Later picks are more speculative with less expectation attached.

I hope to god we get 2 & 3 right. If we take as suggested Brayshaw and Lever we need them to become very good footballers for us.

I certainly have more faith now than I did with the previous recruiters.

While Petracca seems to be universally accepted as the standout, so was Boyd last year, that bloke at GWS on the big money and others and so far they have been underwhelming.

The beauty of it is we have a free run at who we want now and there should be no excuses.
