They have improved their list handsomely with Griffen, and they have no shortage of talent waiting to explode with more development under their belts.

St Kilda, Bulldogs, Richmond, Carl, Essendon and Collingwood should be in our sights. None of these clubs improved over trade week and the dogs and Pies got worse.

Gold Coast and Adelaide we went close to and beat respectively this year. They might improve with new coaches or they might not. Gold Coast should anyway but they still lack depth.

Heck we probably shouldn't even fear Geelong or Freo at home (provided that home isn't in the NT).

It will take a huge effort for us to beat Hawthorn, Sydney, Port. North and West Coast have our number and GWS and Brisbane seem to as well as just got much better.

I think a lot of interstate teams will do very well. The comp is swinging back towards them after favouring the Vic sides from 2007-2014. That means a lot of evenly placed Victorian teams. If we drag ourselves out of a losing mindset in only takes a short burst of form and a couple of upsets to get to 7 or 8 wins. The dogs have done it the last two years without being great at all.

Unless these trades are hidden gems (and I think not) any improvement will have to come from within the existing list.

A fit Hogan would be a real bonus.

I am expecting six wins and we will still be bottom quartile in 2015.

barely any faith in this thread. i think we can snag some upsets if the list remains strong through the middle of the season, we were expected to go better in the 2nd half of this yr and didnt. Yet I feel the players will be better prepared for Rooseys game plan and to mix it up a bit (less predictable). Not sure where improvement will come from. We've lost yet more experience with Frawley and we can't expect Hogan/Salem/Toumpas/pick 2 to deliver marked improvement.

We also need to remain injury free as we have no depth.

This thread is like listening to the experts all holding forth on who's useless and what draft pick would be overs and so on.

We hold on against the crowing naysayers, don't we? Suspend disbelief if we have to, but stick with it, talk up the good things. Like, Roos is a proven developer of under-respected players. And almost every year some club comes up out of nowhere, like we did in 87.

Why would I want to set down a guess against my team doing any good - so I can win a prize for knowing stuff before it happens? So I can have my 15 minutes like GNF did? No, I'd prefer to be a supporter.

Dunno what will happen, but so long as I can stand it, I'm there for them. And f off if you want me to tell you we're no good.

Who is going to step up next year? Our list, once again, has a shortage of players in that optimal 22-24 age bracket. Blame poor drafting from the Prendargast era. We can't expect Toumpas, Viney and Salem to step up yet, while are older guard won't get much better.The new recruits and Hogan (who is still a baby) will help us a bit but it's going to be another long year I feel. Would love to be proven wrong.

Footscray and Port Adelaide only just over the line against us. Hogan, Lumumba, Frost, Garlett, and X - factor of draft picks gives us reason for optimism. There is some swill going on at a few clubs, gives us a chance to sneak through and pinch an extra 3-4 wins. Clark was non-existent last season, so no loss. So down to net loss of one player, Frawley.

This thread borders on nonsense. Youll get all the MFCSS brigade no doubt foaming all over themselves with negativity.

We havent finished assembling our list. We dont know yet who's 'training the house down' as they say. We dont know how some will come back from the Doc's house sts. We don't know how they'll gel. They could be anything. Sometimes groups/teams just click. Who honestly knows but to start off now with the idea that all is doom and gloom I honestly question why some bother.

its not a case of unrealistic expectiatons its a case of not giving in to unrealistic defeat.

Jesus it's October, more delistings at each club, clubs picking up DFA'S, the draw, the draft, then the pre season starts injuries and interrupted pre-seasons to effect each club differently. Players will improve on every list and some players will drop off dramatically on each and every list, a few veterans will be running around with lead bots like ROK when they realise they went that one year to long.

I expect continued improvement, not expecting miracles we are into the second year of our rebuild (yes for the wrist slashers I know we have been down this road since 07 but with the major fook ups we have started again). 6 -8 wins should be the realistic aim but obviously hoping we improve fitness on running out games and increase our belief and win some of those games we probably should have won this year.

You don't worry about the other clubs and just concentrate on improving ourselves and everything slowly falls into place

Funny thread. At the end of 2012 Port Adelaide wouldve been having the same thread with arguably the same results. A traded player showing so much (Ebert), backing up their only good player (Boak) and a bunch of young and mature age players who mostly have shown nothing. A disappointing young player with a high pick (Wingard) and a another high pick. They'd turn that into Wines, Wingard would go bang and their bit players developed over that preseason. It's a natural progression of a young list. We could finish last, we could finish 8th.

Tyson comes on, Jones reaches a new level. A mix of Gawn and Spencer can reach Lobbe levels. Lumumba plays as our Broadbent and McDonald and Frost are our Carlisle and Trengove. Viney needs to burst a game open like Wines, and we need the class of a Hartlett but we're not THAT far away. We have two picks in this draft and Ollie Wines showed one pick can change so much. There's no point crying over the one that got away, but look forward in the hope that these two young kids we bring in may change our fortunes immediately!

if you look at it simplistically and you add Garlett, Lumumba and Hogan into those losses you'd have to say would have won at least a couple more

Honestly i think we will be pretty good next season, I know its all doom and gloom after an underwhelming trade period but dont underestimate another preseason for the players under Roos, Stone and Goodwin

if we can finally draft an impact player with picks 2 or 3 (or both) it will be huge. And lets face it, we should. Theres no reason why Brayshaw Petracca, or whoever we get cant impact games immediately like Ollie Wines, James Aish, Bontempelli, MacRae etc etc

The time for excuses are over, and we have to push for the 8 next season

Improvement will be obvious with mostly youngsters coming on which means we're able to lure Danger AND Tex as a FA's & be finals bound in 2016!! First time ever a club loses 2 band 1 FA's in one year who want to play together elsewhere ;-) Its the next phase of free agency.......
