Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Honestly?

I think the team on paper is weaker now than it was 12 months ago. Didn't think that was possible.

Hogan replaces Frawley. Clark, Byrnes, Clisby, Nicho and anyone else who is delisted gave us nothing gave us nothing. The only player who might decline is Cross.

So therefore anything we get from Lumumba, Garlett and Frost or draft picks will be improvements.

The issue is you have to keep improving each year just to stay the same. So we will need improvements from others from last year, we all know the names.

With the same level of injuries (excluding Clark of course) Melbourne 2015 clearly beats Melbourne 2014. It's just a matter of whether it's by enough to result in the same or more wins and percentage.

He (and a lot of others) have gone with Brayshaw (as the likely pick 2) on the bench. Given his size, shape, fitness and endurance he's a chance to play round 1, but I'll wait until we actually get him!

As others have said, you'd hope for improvement/ better years from Garland, Grimes, Kent, Hogan, Gawn, Viney, Salem, Toumpas.

Of the 22 players who played the most games in 2014 I'd be expecting the following changes for 2015:

Frawley (21 games) - replaced by Hogan (Hogan will have more impact in 2015 than Frawley did in 2014)

Bail (21 games) - replaced by Frost (Howe to take Bail's spot, Frost to play in the backline)

M. Jones (20 games) - replaced by Toumpas (hoping he shows why he was a top pick)

Cross (17 games) - replaced by Brayshaw(or Petracca ^_^)(expect Cross to play 10+ games, but if all are fit and well would think Brayshaw is played ahead of him)

Jamar (17 games) - replaced by Gawn (hoping Gawn can stay fit and make that 1st ruck spot his)

Terlich (15 games) - replaced by Lumumba (big improvement)

JKH (14 games) - replaced by Garlett (same deal as Cross, expect 10+ games, but if all are fit and well Garlett is ahead of him)

Assuming Roos takes in a similar game plan/ team structure, barring injury I'd say we're in a better position than 2014.

Team:

B Frost, Dunn, Jetta

HB Garland, Mcdonald, Grimes

R Gawn, Tyson, Viney

C Lumumba, N. Jones, Vince

HF Kent, Dawes, Howe

F Garlett, Hogan, Pedersen

INT Watts, Salem, Toumpas, Brayshaw (sub)

RES Jamar, Cross, JKH

May be rotated out depending on the opposition team:

Garland/ Grimes for another mid/ more run,

Kent for JKH/ Bail,

Toumpas/ Salem for Michie/ Riley/ Barry/ M.Jones

B Frost Dunn Jetta

HB Garland McDonald Lumumba

C Vince Jones Howe

HF Kent Dawes Watts

F Garlett Hogan Salem

Fol Gawn Tyson Viney

I/C Fitzpatrick Michie Riley Cross

Em Kennedy-Harris, Toumpas, Grimes

In the mix: Pedersen, Bail, Terlich, Jamar, Spencer

Developing: Barry, Hunt, King, Stretch, Harmes?, ND2, ND3, ND40...

Senior Fringe Depth: M Jones, McKenzie, Evans, Georgiou?

LTI: Trengove

Good depth of ball winning mids.

Good spread of goalkickers.

Grimes is the big out. Really needs to improve his kicking. Suspect he will be in Roosy's best 22.

I would like to see that team, in black texta on Friday morning in my butcher shop window.

I get the feeling we will be seeing a lot more of Barry next year. He was starting to show glimpses at season's end, and with another full pre-season, I can see him adding some bulk and becoming a very useful player.

when will you kids learn on demonland.

Roosy doesnt play kids .

Learn from the Sydney model

Lets Brayshaw & pick 3 & Strech learn at Casey for a year or 2

You kids wont Schwab , Connelly & Prendergast back dont you

lets start world war 3 again

Roos not playing kids is a myth.

Kennedy-Harris played round 1.

Hogan would of played if fit.

Salem played in round 6 after having very little preseason and only playing a couple of games in the VFL.

Tyson is only 21.

Unlike Sydney we have to play kids because our senior experience is just not that good.

So my team would be.

B: JETTA, FROST, DUNN

HB: GRIMES, MCDONALD, LUMUMBA

C: BRAYSHAW, N.JONES, CROSS

HF: VINEY, HOGAN, HOWE

F: MCCARTIN, DAWES, GARLETT

FOLL: JAMAR, VINCE, TYSON

IC: WATTS, GAWN, GARLAND

SUB: KENT

with Frost and Lumumba on board it seems the general consensus is Howe will move back forward

I think that would be ideal considering how pathetic we were this season up forward, and he will be the perfect foil for Hogan and Dawes, with Garlett, Kent and JKH crumbing them

my ideal forward line is

HF - Watts Dawes Kent

F - Howe Hogan Garlett

McCartin in there if we draft him obviously

I think that's pretty much everyone's ideal forward line, with a 2nd ruck on the bench and midfielders rotating through that half forward spots.

If we do draft McCartin or Wright I expect both of them to see significant time in the VFL.

When it comes to Howe I wouldn't be surprised if he's still in the backline. His intercept marking is a weapon and he's our best kick from half back, no matter how sad that sounds. Lumumba I think will move between wing and half back and Frost and McDonald may even be forced in to a bit of friendly competition to nail down spots. A lot depends on the form and fitness of Dunn, Garland and Grimes and whether they are effectively moving the ball from the backline. If they aren't then I expect Howe will be back there in an instant.

I cbf'ed looking up the stats but I remember Hannebery getting a taste whilst he was at school then straight in the team the next year. Parker similarly.

Brayshaw has the height, strength and size to play very early. And the fitness if he gets through preseason. If we do recruit him he'll be treated the same way in JKH in that he'll be given the opportunities in preseason to push his case.

I believe he's born in the first week of January and finished school last year anyway. So he'll be ready to go for a big preseason.

That said he's not even locked in for us anyone. So no point naming him in prospective teams. And when it comes to any young talls we draft I wouldn't expect to see them in the team any time soon.

Not sure the second ruck will play from the bench. Limited rotations pressure coaches to play the second ruck, usually in the forward pocket, for considerable portions of any game. If Jamar continues as 1st ruck, I could see Gawn playing a lot in the forward line in 2015.

You do realise that Salem and Kennedy-Harris played 12 & 14 games respectively in their 1st year? Our new draftees don't need the pressure and expectation of being the driving force behind our improvement. That doesn't mean they can't contribute by playing a role if fit and able.

I can't wait for the year that we do this and we don't feel obligated to put in our first round draft pick/s, a developing player we picked up in the trade period, and a delisted player that "slipped" to pick 2 in the preseason draft.

We are getting there, still a little way off yet, but it's happening.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
