On Brayshaw:

"Tough and hard inside midfielder will be ready to step straight in for the Demons. His desperation to tackle and smother around the stoppages will appeal to Paul Roos’ defensive demands. The kind of guy who you can count on in a big final.

The twist: There is none. Just pick him."

On McCartin:

"The arrival of one-grab full-forward McCartin alongside Jesse Hogan will give the Dees the best two power forwards the game is yet to see. A natural goalkicker with an accurate radar and a thick dollop of aggression.

The twist: Jake Lever was once in the mix but the Dees are certain to package Brayshaw up with McCartin or, if he doesn’t go No.1, Petracca."

With the rate he seems to be sliding, you'll be halfway to China by the time Lever's name is called out.

But don't let that stop you.

these guys never get it right.

My tips:

You will hear, "I can't believe he slid this far", "we rated him far higher than everyone else"

There will be smokey's on the night.

I'm getting nervous DE! Starting to worry i have might have made my second avatar blunder. And i will blame you!

I fully expect that if St. Kilda take Petracca then we should take Brayshaw and Mc Cartin.

If we don't take Mc Cartin with pick 3 I'm calling it.....

It will be the biggest blunder in our recruiting history Bar none!

Geez you'll be torn. You won't know which trade decision to gnash and wail about.

Oh BTW Wines is overrated, will plateau now and the the decision to go to with the Toump will be proven to be the correct one.

Gee Binman You must be able to see the future that others cannot

I saw nothing in Toumpas last year to remotely suggest that this will happen in fact OW will more than likely power on!

The problem with this statement is it tries to exert the notion of inadequacy with the first whilst suggesting the latter will triumph.

Even if Wines got no better than he is currently ( something id seriously doubt but will entertain for the sake of it ) then he is still one of the leagues most effectual proven mids. Id happily take this for the next 10 seasons. We have few like him on our list currently. As to the latter its till all speculative. Even if he manages to step up hes still behind.

No one bar possibly yourself generally accepts ( especially with hindsight ) that this was the correct one. What is is...is our lot and we'll work with it.

Taking Toumpas over Wines was the correct at the time (if you draft by picking who is the higher rated youngster) and horribly wrong in hindsight.

Toumpas has a huge way to go to be on level pegging with Wines let alone surpass him.

In simple terms my wants for picks 2 and 3 are that we just get footy players.. Kids who have shown a penchant to actually play and take on the game. I'm so sick to death and over this 'elite' shlt I cant tell you.

Elite reminds me of the idea of that 'extraodinary girl" that we all imagined we wanted/needed only to discover it was an illusion and just a high maintenance headache. Why does that sound familar !!

If we take McCartin I think Dawes will have to get used to relief rucking.

Hogan.

I don't like it but he is suited to it, moreso than Dawes, might actually play well for those 20 minutes, and considering we will be investing another top 3 pick on a tall forward - he can used in this purpose.

I think that if McCartin is chosen, he will not play much in 2015, (barring injury of course) and they will have Gawn/Pedersen there to backup Jamar.

Hogan pinch hitting in the ruck could potentially become a roughhead clone. That would be a massive plus for us.

Interesting to read in The Age that Lewis Taylor was a late call up to attend last year's draft, as he was installed as our 2nd backup if Salem was gone at pick 9 (...since the AFL wants to know teams' likely selections, so they can make sure they get a photo of the top 10 in attendance).

Gives you confidence that we might finally be competent in this area.

Yes, yes i know. I am actually trying out some reverse trolling. To Picketfence's credit he has refused to bite.

That said i'm excited by the Toump and whilst Wines is a gun (not a bad level to plateau at!) i do think that he had a ready to rock AFL body and has no injuries and plays in a very strong midfield, which has to help. The Toump will come good and really it is too early to say one way or t'other which decision will prove to be correct (notwithstanding Wines went at 7 not four, so we should also be discussing Mcrae for instance)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
