how about some starting a Melbourne for the 8 thread and leave it to Garlettt here...just saying ( nicely )

If we want him then we have to deal cause he will definitely get picked up, and if it's a third rounder then downgrading 5 places from Pick 23 isn't "way overs". There's stuff all difference between 23 and 28.

I can think of worse results than both H and Garlett for Pick 23.

On the contrary there is a fair bit of difference when it comes to pick in the top 40. It's only when you get out beyond 40 that it becomes more of a lottery and the chances of you missing out on someone you rate highly becomes minimal.

Kev Sheehan says from pick 4-20 there isn't much of a difference in talent this year. So if a few of his expected top 20 slip through, it would be nice to take them at No.23, because that player might be gone by No.28.

So I'd rather see us exchange fourth round picks (60 v 64) where it really shouldn't matter much, or if they don't want Blease, then simply offer our fourth rounder.

Further to this, Garland has pretty much been delisted anyway, so all we are fighting with are the Bombers (pick 52 or 70) and any other side that want to make the Blues a better deal.

I am with you Jimmy. Every year I firmly believe we can make the finals right up until after the first quarter of the 1st game of the season...then poof...all hope gone.

Usually the practice games for me, Richmond hopes high, Geelong fading then Hawthorn...bang!!!

Yep, sorry about that - an honest mistake and not a case of Gone Garl.

We need outside speed and so Garlett will get a chance to cement his spot and prove he's not a has-been before the next generation like Stretch arrive.

It would have been interesting to see Demonlands reaction if a poster submitted a thread posing the idea trading for out of favor Garlett prior to the news of Roos chasing him.. I would be guessing I would be reading a completely different thread reaction than what I am now.

I'd rather that too. Whether that will get it done is another matter. As I said, I can easily see him getting picked up in the draft in which case we will lose a proven quality crumbing forward who wanted to come here and whose best goal tallies are double that of our leading goal kicker this year.

I take your point but disagree on your overall evaluation on the difference between 23 and 28. Once you get to that stage, I think a 5 spot difference is more towards the negligible than the meaningful side of things.

I'm not gun ho for it, but it should be considered.

Not so. On games played over the career, from pick 15 to pick 40 the line of best fit is almost flat.

I'm happy as long no one calls him "Jeffy," he's not 3 years old.

Call him by his true name, Jeffrey Garlett. Which means the forward half Prince, the one who does not laugh often.

And... is gifted.

He was no good at ANYTHING under Malthouse. First half of 2013 and before he was a jet.

Reckon this is very much a personality clash thing with Malthouse and hold hope that Roosy will manage him better.

Think this has been the case with a few Carlton players.

It'd be nice to see Hawthorn implode and then they'd all be taken care of for a few years. :P

Fitzpatrick, Blease & Pick 60 for Garlett & Pick 46.

We then have Pick 46 to trade for Frost.

Players to target at the end of the year

Jeff Garlett bludging, standing on one leg could kick 35 goals a year sitting in the forward pocket.

Doesnt tackle though.

As far as is he any good etc I'll happily defer to Roos et al . If they see something and believe the negatives are manageable then thats fine by me.

A little zip and flair wont go astray

if it is a straight swap for Blease then we get someone as quick but who gets the ball a bit and kicks a goal - as opposed to someone who is just pretty much fast.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
