Maybe we knew Saints were taking him if we didnt get a deal done now.

Either way, St.Kilda and GWS are way better poker players' than we are.

"otherwise we will use the PSD to get him". Why is it that this club loves to talk the talk, but never walk the walk.

If we were that desperate to trade 23 for Frost, we must have Dangerfield lined up for our PSD pick.

I got that feeling too.

I also think this draft is a bit shallow.

Outside the top 3 or 4, and then again outside the top 20 or so.

Nobody seemed to want it in other trades, and we were giving up Trengove just to move forward 11 spots to 12, so there must have been some significant gap between the talent there.

Cest la vie.

I think after no big trades coming to fruition, we really couldn't risk losing out on Frost also.

St Kilda trading out Stanley made an opening for just his type, and I rate Frost much higher than Membrey.

I really don't get the need for this deal.

He was gonna be a free pick up in the PSD, instead we trade pick 23 for him and picks we won't use.

So confusing.

We got screwed ..... again. I wish this club would collectively grow some testicles. What do we think we will get for pick 53?

And do what exactly?

[censored] poor finish to a carp trade period. There goes any chance of getting Nakia Cockatoo with a slider.

Mahoney just said there was some interest in Frost from St Kilda.

Said the trade allows him to come in straight away and start day one of pre-season rather than waiting the extra month. Said that is crucial for a developing player.

Also mentioned that Stretch could have gone mid-20's so it is all about the 'net effect' and we've brought in the players we want to bring in.

There's no point screwing GWS when we are going to want to deal with them for the next few years as their kids keep coming home.

Using this method the higher the number the more chance of success.

Recruiters call it "Prendergasting" or "going the Barry".

Stkilda confirmed they had some interest in Frost if we didn't get the deal done. I feel slightly better.

We have had more success with our later draft picks than our early one - sad but true

St Kilda presser. They would've looked at Sam Frost if MFC couldn't get it done.

But will now look at Tim Membrey with PSD.

We blinked

St Kilda were a real chance of taking Frost especially given thru traded Stsnley out. It also gives Melbourne a chance to have a pick in the PSD not already committed to Frost. We may already have an eye on someone.

Mahoney just said there was some interest in Frost from St Kilda.

That's just a throwaway line to keep supporters happy, but we've cut through his bs in 2 seconds flat.

As for this 'net gain' ideology, LOL. If we were in such a good position to land Stretch with our 3rd round pick, you don't just go ahead and reduce the hand you're dealt and hide behind 'net effect'. You exploit it and press the advantage as hard as you can

Who says we won't use them.

Yep. Sure MFC would've taken Stretch at 23 and happy to trade Frost at 30ish so net effect is the same.

But that's not how it happened. Stretch was taken in the third round. Pick 23 has value. Christensen went for 21

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
