Luke Lowden from Hawthorn, dropped after kicking 3 on debut.

Behind Hale, McEvoy and Ceglar.

Yes, piques my interest too. Would be interested in the opinions of posters who've frequently seen him play.

Ideal trade/offseason for me.

Get Pick 3 for Frawley.

Secure Stretch F/S with our 2nd round pick.

Delist: Georgiou, Strauss, Tapscott

Trade Pick 2 to GWS for Shiel.

Trade Pick 3 & Toumpas to Adelaide for Dangerfield & Lyons.

Trade Clark to Collingwood

Pies trade HL to Sydney

Swans trade Zac Jones to Melbourne. We'd likely have to swap 3rd round picks also with Swans.

Trade Blease & Fitzpatrick to Calrton

Blues trade Robinson & late pick to GWS

Giants trade Frost & 3rd round pick to us.

Trade Evans to West Coast

Eagles trade Ash Smith to Bulldogs

Doggies trade Tutt to us.

Trade 4th round pick to Hawthorn for Lowden.

Go to the draft with Picks (approx): 21 (Stretch), 42 (Dean Gore from Sturt), 56 (Sean McLaren Sandy Dragons), 77 (Jetta upgrade)

Rookie Draft Picks: 2 (Brett Eddy South Adelaide), 20 (James Gwilt St Kilda)

Really dreaming big getting stretch with our 2nd rounder...

To summarise your scenario:

Out: pick 2, Toumpas, Pick 3, Clark, 3rd round (40ish), Blease, Fitzpatrick, Evans, 4th round (58ish)

In: Shiel, Dangerfield, Lyons, Zac Jones, swans 3rd round (56ish), Frost, Blues 3rd round (44ish), Tutt, Lowden

You have us delisting 2 senior list players on top of the 2 already gone, plus trading out 5 leaves 9 spots on the senior list to fill. 1 is for the Jetta upgrade, leaving 8 spots. You have us bringing in 7 players, leaving 1 spot on the list (stretch). Would need to bring in one less player/ delist one more as you have to use 3 picks in the ND (incl rookie upgrades).

Although that's a good amount of quality coming in, I'd be sceptical over our key positions at both ends. Forward talls - Hogan/ Dawes, Back Talls - Frost/ Mcdonald/ Dunn. There is no coverage at either end (especially given you've delisted Georgiou). James Gwilt is not coverage - He is worse than Georgiou. If any of our talls gets injured we're screwed worse than the start of this year.

FWIW - Would think Shiel is worth more than p2 unless he says he wants home. Tyson + pick 9 was worth pick 2 + 20. Given Shiel is imo a better talent with more runs on the board and 10 or so years left in the game I'd think he'd be worth p2 + steak knives. The Dangerfield trade is probably about right. Wouldn't think the Swans would trade Zac Jones (p14 last year) for Harry Lamumba - they lose out in that trade. The giants trade Frost + 3rd round pick and get Robinson and a later pick? They're getting bent over there... Although we're not getting much for him, would think Evans trade value is 0 - has shown nothing of note in his time with us (and not sure why he wasn't shown the door at the same time as Nicholson/ Clisby?). I'd think Lowden would be worth more than a 4th rounder - Shawn Hampson was a sub 30 pick last year for comparison.

I think Suns will be interested in trade if

Pick MFC #2 & 22 to Suns

Pick GCFC #7 & #15 & #27 to Demons

Not sure how this works.

I think we could get Jayden Laverde, Liam Duggan and Connor Blakely with these picks and be very happy.

Together with trade of Pick 3 to GWS for Shiel, this is a huge draft bonus.

Add : Jetta (upgrade) & Stretch (f/son).

Add : Clark and Labumba (magpies) swap

Add : Tapscott and Lyons (crows) swap

Thats 8 in ... Shiel, Laverde, Duggan, Blakeley, Stretch, Lyons, Labumba, Jetta*

Out... Frawley, Clark, Tapscott, Evans, Nicholson, Clisby, Byrnes, Blease

Agree with most of what you say here 'Beats' but I wouldn't base anything on the Hampson trade. The Tiges really screwed this one up.

I really like the idea of using pick 3 to get Gold Coast's 7 and 15.

That scenario you mentioned of sending 2 of our picks to GC for 3 of theirs may interest them as I think they still need to trim their list (?), and we just need to add as many talented players as we can.

I'd like to take Petracca or Brayshaw with 2 and then I wonder if you could send 7 to Essendon for Carlisle and 15 to Sydney for Mitchell?

You don't have to send anything to Essendon, the player can walk.

You're right - my bad, he hasn't played many games for 6 years on the list (not sure what his injury history is like?), his trade value is probably closer to Trent West - was traded to Brisbane for pick 41 last year (equivalent to start of 3rd round pick this year).

Only according to the AFLPA. it's yet to be tested and whilst the bombers could do without another court case i'm sure they would go down that path if necessary.

That said that possibility creates leverage and ultimately the question for any club that has a dissatisfied player who is not a FA but keen to leave (eg the lions last year) is do you keep them at the club against their wishes or try and engineer the best trade possible.

As for Stretch I'm a realist, I'd love to say 5th round, but I'm pretty certain that Port will bid their 1st round pick on him.

And I think you've got your numbers wrong. We've already lost three senior players: (Nicho, Clisby, Byrnes) We then trade out Toumpas, Clark, Blease, Fitzpatrick & Evans. Loose Frawley as a FA and then delist both Tapscott & Strauss along with Georgiou off the rookie list. That leaves 12 spots (11 senior & 1 rookie). Upgrading Jetta makes it 10 senior & 2 rookie.

Trade in Dangerfield, Lyons, Shiel, Jones, Frost, Tutt & Lowden (3 & 2). At the ND we select Stretch, Gore & McLaren (leaves 2 rookie spots) and then grab Eddy & Gwilt in the rookie draft.

This leaves us with more then reasonable key position players at both ends IMO. Hogan, Dawes, Eddy*, Pedersen (throw in Lowden/Gawn/King who could play as a 3rd tall/forward if required. And backs McDonald, Dunn, Garland, Frost, the young McLaren (197cm) & Gwilt*. i hear you say that he's worse then Georgiou, but as someone that watches a lot of St Kilda games due to a Saints supporting wife I'd have to disagree. Gwilt like Georgiou is often an undersized KPD, yet uses his body well and actually provides some run from defence, something Georgiou doesn't do.

As for the other trades mentioned, i think the Tyson trade last year shows that Pick 2 on it's own probably would be enough for Shiel. We gave them Pick 2 for Tyson and thenswapped Pick 20 for 9, shows Tyson on his own wasn't enough for Pick 2, so we got something more with a later pick upgraded. Pick 2 for Shiel would go close, might not quite be enough, but something GWS (who are desperate for Petracca) may consider.

Swans may feel getting Lumumba for Z. Jones isn't enough, one of the reasons why I mentioned a swap of 3rd round picks. Takes a pick for them in the mid 50's to a pick in the early 40's. Lumumba is they type of player Swans love also (eg Mattner, Shaw, Malceski, Kennelly).

Disagree on Giants being bent over on the Frost trade also. Getting a hard bodied midfielder, who despite being a [censored], is a good player in his mid 20's and the later pick (in the 60's perhaps) for a young defender off their rookie list probably 5th in line behind Davis, Mohr, Plowman & Corr and a 3rd round pick they likely won't use is about fair for me.

Agree Evans has minimal trade value, however I'm pretty sure he's contracted, so we need to trade him out. WA boy, Eagles may be interested and all players involved in that deal have close to zero value.

And finally as for Lowden, I can't see how he could demand more then a early 4th round pick. Played 1 game in 5 years. Michie cost us a pick in the 50's I think last year after 1 game in 3 years. So Hawthorn would be hard pressed to expect anything more for Lowden.

You're in fairy land if you think Sydney would trade Zac Jones.

I love the trade talk this time of year more than anyone....

But... "IF" Petracca and Brayshaw become stars, add in Tyson, we would have an unbelievable starting midfield over the next 12 years. Not forgetting Hogan down forward.

Realistically, we're not going to play finals under Roos, maybe his legacy can be developing these kids properly and in 2-4 years building a side around them.

Dangerfield would be great but he hasn't made Adelaide a top 4 team.

I have paid money to watch pansies for a decade.

I'll have Robinson over 90% of the try-hards that have put on the jumper.

At least with him there is unequivocal commitment to the pill or the man with the ball.

Could not agree more, and will have to give up nothing for him. It's better than Lamumba and Gwilt put together!

Would really like to use pick 2 or compo pick for Mitchell!

Rumor from facebook (so you know it's legit) Melbs pick 2 and 3rd rounder for GWS Cameron and Frost.

As strange as this sounds coming from a FB page, I can confirm this rumour.

I was informed a number of weeks ago by someone associated with the inner sanctum of the club that we were going hard after Jeremy Cameron and that it was sounding promising.

This was prior to/ around the time of the Dogs targeting Patton and then him going down with an ACL, so I'm not exactly sure where their intentions now lay or if that effects our chances of securing the in contract Cameron as the Dogs may now also be chasing him.

With regards to picks and what's involved I didn't and still don't know but it's blatantly obvious that if this was to eventuate our first pick would certainly be involved.

As for Frost I have heard nothing other than the associated newspaper article that we were looking at him to replace Frawley, so the trade proposed above makes sense and fits well with the murmurous I've heard.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if it was more along the lines of our picks 2, 3 (if we get it), and 3rd rounder to GWS for Cameron, pick 4, and Frost. An exchange of later picks may also be involved - hopefully to our advantage.

No way GWS would do this. Cameron is just about worth 2 and 3 on his own. He was AA and almost won a Coleman playing in a team who won a couple of matches.

And as for an exchange of later picks that further 'works in our advantage', dreaming.

That trade would be a hell of a lot fairer if GWS kept pick 4.

I'm only passing on what I've heard.

The questions are: Is he home sick? and does he want out?

He is out of contract next year and GWS are so far unable to convince him to re-sign. The last thing they'll want is to drag out next year with the media and the 17 other clubs circling or having him threaten to walk into the draft.

If he outright refuses to re-sign and opts for a trade a year in advance they (GWS) may be able to get the best deal with us while we have picks 2 and presumably 3.

Btw. I look forward to reading your intel.

I also ask you, while he refuses to re-sign a year early do you think the MFC should just ignore that because "he was AA and almost won a Coleman" and thus too hard or even too expensive to get?

My dream offseason

Pick 3 to GCS for picks 7, 15

Pick 2, 7 and Jimmy Toumpas for Patrick Dangerfield and pick 9

Pick 9 for Kristen Jacksh and pick 20

pick 15 & 20 for Tom Mitchell & Nick Malceski ( salary cap relief/ better than their F/A compo )

Pick 22 - Corey Ellis

Pick 40 - Billy Stretch

pick 57 - Trade to GWS for Sam Frost

Sam Blease to Carlton for Mitch Robinson

Mitch Clark & to Collingwood for Harry Lamumba

Luke Tapscott for Jarryd Lyons

I tend to think GWS will do a deal with StK to get pick 1. Cameron or Patton to StK, for example. That way they are assured of getting Petracca.

Cameron or Patton (even with the knee injuries) are worth far more than Petracca. Talented tall forwards are like gold.

What a ridiculous comment.

I stated that the trade you suggested (let's not pretend you have 'Intel' either) was massively swayed in Melbourne's favour.

It's got nothing to do with whether the Demons should go after him or not.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
