Any further update on N Jones re-signing?

I know they have entered negotiations but is there any update from anyone that actually knows where it's at?

Would like this completed prior to the end of the trade period.

If he hasn't re-signed by round 1, our entire season will be high jacked by Jones speculation, just like Frawley.

Frawley always refused to even talk, Jones has entered negotiations. Much more encouraging. Will be relieved when its signed, sealed, delivered.

Unconfirmed ( just for you dazzleman)

Hird has had a falling out (as has the Injectiondon ) with Bomber Thompson

Result Bomber walks to Gold Coast!

Another one of your [censored] sources again Pickett?

Give it a rest.

Toby Greene and pick 19 for pick 3??

I don't think Greene's market value is high enough, therefore I think we'd want a Shiel or Treloar plus Greene. He's certainly not worth pick 3 on his own. I'm not even sure Shiel is given the Judd trade.

On Toby Greene and I'm aware of the no DH policy but I wonder if, in view of the err ... problems he's been experiencing, it would be best for his welfare and his social rehabilitation to be as far away from western Sydney as possible and that he might find a safer haven under the watchful eye of Roosy and with former junior teammates in Viney and Tyson around to keep him in check.

[note the irony - if it happens we'll be prising him away from the evil influence of Voldemort]

What constitutes a no DH policy? To some of us here HL & Garlett fly in the face of that, both have had plenty of off field dramas and shenanigans in the past. Right now I reckon Roos will take better players wherever he can find them & back himself & his team to manage them being a DH or not.

The no DH policy in Sydney saw them appoint one of the biggest DH's in the league IMO as joint captain at one stage (mr big bad baldy)....

I just want to win games of footy - that builds a good culture. Stong leaders (which sadly we might not have atm - although Jones, Vince, Goodwin and Roos aren't a bad start)

I don't like the no DH policy... if they can play get them in (for the right price).... have clauses and leaders around them

Take akker as a prime example.... clear DH but absolute gun in a great team with great leaders

I agree, Jack. I think if we do approach GWS with pick 3, we'd want more than simply one player. Even for one of their young stars, we'd want a pick back (higher than 19) or a package deal. If Greene is involved, it's important to use those "problems" to leverage the best deal we can.

Has Roos actually hinted or explicitly said there is a no [censored] policy? Where has this idea come from?

On the contrary Jack, I went to school with Toby and I think it will most likely will be better for him to remain in GWS. The 'incident' in question occurred in Melbourne and the friends he has in Melbourne aren't a good influence on him. Knowing both them and him I am not surprised an incident occurred but am surprised he was involved. He was a little bit dumb but seemed like a good kid.

I think the kid just needs some maturity under his belt, & be in an environment with more mature players around him.

I would welcome him with Shiel.

With all the trade action, it is hard to believe Watts is not being shopped. Surely he will feature in dispatches.

Im not 100% sure... he may not have

I know Roosy is interested in winning games so i may have just assumed the no DH policy was still in effect from prior eras

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/new-name-emerges-in-dayne-beams-deal-as-trades-heat-up-20141011-114s3k.html

The Age reporting a blockbuster 5 club trade:

Collingwood: lose Beams, Lamumba Gain Pick 5, Varcoe, Greenwood, Jack Crisp (or pick from trading him)

Brisbane lose: pick 5, 21, 25 and Jack Crisp (or pick from trading him). Gain Beams, Christiansen

North Melbourne: lose Greenwood Gain pick 25

Geelong lose: Varcoe and Christiansen Gain pick 21 and Mitch Clark

Melbourne lose: Mitch Clark Gain Lamumba

Looks fairly balanced.

Fairly good for Collingwood in my eyes with Brisbane paying overs for Beams. Think Geelong win a little trading Varcoe for Mitch Clarke (hope MFC get a bit more from them)

Still reporting that Melbourne pick 23 + trengove for pick 12 or 10. Hope this is for a really good player trade like 2 very good GWS players:

picks 2, Evans and 12 for Shiel, Green/Tomlinson and Frost.

Tomlinson went to the same high school as Dom Tyson so could be a link there.

If we did manage to get Shiel, Greene and Dangerfield, that is some serious ball winning ability there. Combine that with Tyson and Jones who consistently get high 20s, plus Vince and Cross who get mid 20s and you've got a midfield that can really accumulate and get on top of the opposition. Shiel and Dangerfield would bring some much needed pace to the midfield too. Particularly, Dangerfield. Livin' in a dream, huh? ;)

Do you actually think for a second we would get all 3? We'll be extremely lucky to get one of those players.

and there are no guarantees he hasn't, he will give everything he has for the club and that is a valuable commodity in my book whilst I accept he has currency and it is a ruthless business there are other players on our list I would have in the queue out the door before Jack

I fully agree with you however the reality is that there are few on our list that would similarly command pick 12 that we would wish to get rid of (e.g. N. Jones, Tyson, etc)!

In regards to the 2 posts above, in full agreement with the latter. And pick 10 or 12 for a player that may or may not come back fit and well is good enough for me! Unless of course Pennannt can come up with the alternative players?

With all the trade action, it is hard to believe Watts is not being shopped. Surely he will feature in dispatches.

Apparently no-one really inquired about him!

Danger would be 2 high picks alone at least!

AF (good initials there by the way) if we manage to get them 3 I'll be over the moon but in reality if we land them 3 I think our Round 1 game will be being played in Disneyland. Roll on Thursday when the crazy season ends

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
