Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Changes v Eagles - Jack W out?

OK, before I start this thread and open it up to the Loserville comments like "Who cares" and "In: Flower, Lyon and Schwarz" or "Out: Everyone", I thought I'd make a few actual comments about the selection.

The first is that PR has a difficult decision to make about Jack Watts this week and next week. He's spent all year defending him in the media and he's tried him up on the wing so that he can get some easy touches and hope the pressure goes off him, but even PR must have been watching his lack of intensity and willingness to chase that proved so costly against a bunch of boys on Sunday.

So can he now forsake him at this late stage in the season? My guess is that PR will again remain faithful and there will only be a few changes.

The same principles apply a bit to a number of players who were quiet on Sunday - eg: Frawley, Dawes, Garland. PR has shown great loyalty to his senior group - how can he wield the axe now and if he does, is it a great message going into the off-season? Some might argue that it is the perfect message - it would give them a reminder that their spots are on the line so that they work harder in the summer.

Grimes is obviously injured and is one out.

Bail is a must for Perth because he runs all day and Pedersen showed great character in magoos and also must come back in - could he be a surprise tagging match-up for Nic Nat?

The two easy outs for Roosy (no damage to his senior harmony) are Dom Barry (glad he's got a few games now though) and Matt Jones (he was meant to step up after being axed and he has gone more back into his shell). Riley could be on shakey ground this week as well.

I would love to see Salem play down back - I've been banging on about how we are the only club without a left footer in our back half for a few weeks now and he has courage (just ask Davis) and tackles like a backman should. It would be nice to see him getting a few cheap kicks down there and with Grimes out, there's a spot for him. I'd also like to see Garland up forward again because he is not providing anything down back except spoils.

So for me it's:

Out: Grimes (inj), Barry, M.Jones and maybe Riley.

In: Pedersen, Bail, JKH and maybe Tapscott/McKenzie.

Team

B: Jetta (Cripps or Le Cras if he plays) Frawley (Kennedy) Dunn (McGovern)

HB: Howe McDonald (Darling) Salem

C: Bail Tyson Cross

HF: Garland Dawes Viney

F: JKH (only decent crumber we have) Gawn Kent

Ru: Jamar Vince N.Jones

Int: Pedersen, Michie, Riley

Sub: Watts (I've been banging on about this also for weeks. It's the one way Roosy can drop him without a media stir being created and he may come on for a quarter and play with actual intensity.)

Play Strauss. Seriously. He can kick, which places him above 80% of those who took the field yesterday.

If defensive accountability is the issue, he will be in good company.

100%DE last week wasn't it?

Play him. Roll the dice. Nothing to lose.

You must have a lot of life savings. I'm guessing about $5 million. Safe bet though.

I agree how could he possibly worse than Grimes, Garland, M Jones or Barry

Biggest change for me, would be for Roos to just free them up and say go for goal at every opportunity and don't kick or handball backwards. It couldn't be worse.

My mate who I go with most weeks said yesterday that he thought that they hand pass so quickly so they wont have the ball when things go wrong.

Now while that is BS it sure looked like it yesterday.

He couldn't possibly be.

We have a very good kick and decisionmaker who can't get a game. Don't tell me he's less deserving than the blokes who collected their pay cheques yesterday.

It's highly unlikely but I really see it as a nothing to lose situation now.

I never thought I would ever say this P-man But about ten yesterday make Bail and McKenzie look like Champions.

I wonder when Roos is going to make the change that has dared not spoken its

name all season? Namely dropping Frawley. Who cares if Kennedy kicks a dozen and we only get 3 or four goals. Small humiliations compared to what we have been through so far and just as likely to happen with Frawley playing. Time to see a ruthless excision rather than the usual juggling in and out of the usual suspects every other week.

I find it very difficult to believe that Fitzpatrick, or Pedersen could achieve less or look less disinterested.

Play them, Frawley left mentally weeks ago.

Roos is a fence sitter, hasn't made a statement at selection all year. he'll do the usual Barry Riley Jones out. bla bla

I know how he feels, I have a member of staff that is lazy, disinterested and mistake prone. I have been looking for a replacement for 8 months. No suitable applicant, so lazy still has a job. The day a better prospect pops up lazy gets the chop.

The reason Strauss doesn't get a game is that he is no good. He can't play well as VFL level consistently. The guys that get into the AFL side play well for Casey so therefore anyone playing yesterday is way better then Strauss - even though he 'can kick'. He has no awareness and can't defend. So while people say we have nothing to lose, I say we have nothing to gain in playing him.

I'd prefer to see someone like Clisby who showed something last year but he is also struggling at Casey.

I would not like to see Hogan come in as some sort of saviour this week. If he gets a kick for Casey this weekend, then maybe bring him in for the last round. Might cheer us fans up a bit

Think he may do that for the last 2 games.

Just go out and play open footy and show your skills in a shootout.

Gives blokes who are on the verge a chance to show off before career ending decisions by the footy department.

"No awareness and can't defend"

Again, that describes the bulk of the those who played yesterday.

Blease and Tapscott got a chance based on not alot more. I'd like to see him out there, but that's just me and I acknowledge it almost certainly won't happen now.

My mate who I go with most weeks said yesterday that he thought that they hand pass so quickly so they wont have the ball when things go wrong.

Now while that is BS it sure looked like it yesterday.

It's not [censored].

They look to be literally handballing off responsibility to someone else.

They are losers.

It actually not BS old dee seen it many times, it's players going into self preservation mode playing for their futures and not wanting to be the one making the mistake.

In - Will to compete by all 22 and at the very least break even with their direct opponent

Outs - My 7 year old has hung in and hasn't followed his older brother to another club. My boy is probably the only reason I am going this Saturday because he wants to see the Dees but he is wavering a bit and now supporting second sides (Freo because of his mates and Hawthorn because they are his teams colours). I believe a shocking performance by our boys on Saturday and there goes another young fan.

It has been my opinion that he is already long gone and that waiting suitors are just a myth. If not so and he does get passed over we should just delist him anyway for being such a destabilising and selfish prique.

Maybe he could play Frawley in his best position as a good defender and not as a mediocre Brad Miller-clone forward.

Hasnt Strauss been one of the better players at Casey? Well the last month or so. He had 27 disposals against the Dogs. Plus Grimes may come out of the team due to injury. Otherwise play Barry of half back.

In: Strauss, Pederson

Out: Grimes (inj), Frawley

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
