Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Who is in the mix for Melbourne? Cam Pedersen looks likely to return as a forward option. Jordie McKenzie could add some toughness around the ball and had 29 disposals in the VFL, and Jay Kennedy-Harris's pace would be handy at Subiaco. Jimmy Toumpas played just one VFL game so expect him to be given time. Michael Evans and Luke Tapscott are some chance to play after winning more than 20 disposals each in the VFL. Evans also laid eight tackles. Rohan Bail did not play VFL but, if fit, will be in line for selection. - Peter Ryan

For a lot of posters who seem to not care anymore, we are on to about topic nr 15 since Sunday, all banging on about the same thing.

Reason I don't post a lot after a game like Sunday, what is the point, I was there, I saw it, it was horrible, I have no idea what is/went wrong.

I went to training a couple of days before and everybody looked switched on and ready to go, I speak to them and ask them about the supposed 'scarring' they all deny it.

I feel like going this week and just giving them the death stare.

I could pontificate ad infinitum, but all that does it just not let go of it....

Does Roos know what is wrong and how to fix it, hopefully.

Move on to next week, at least if I go to one of the Sports Bars to watch it, I can get reasonably priced food and drink........

It makes no sense to tell the players to go out there and play a totally different style of game than the one Roos has being trying to fuse into their brains, it will only confuse them even more on what they should or should not do as they would not have practiced this way.

They need to go out and play the way the have been trained, but doing so with far better skill and heart than they have shown. Players should not be rotated off the field into interchange unless they are stuff from running and chasing hard. Blease, mckenzie and Tapscott have had their chances and failed, sorry no point them coming in playing one half way good game and getting another contract and clogging the list. Strauss well if he has not made it yet then he is not likely to. I would bring in Fitzy and Pederson for Grimes and Barry, and possibly Jimmy Toumpas and JHK for Matt Jones and Kent, we need to get more games into our younger players and they need to stand up and start playing better football. As a small reminder to Jack Watts that he is not an automatic pick I would put him on the interchange bench, on the end near the door/exit.

OK, before I start this thread and open it up to the Loserville comments like "Who cares" and "In: Flower, Lyon and Schwarz" or "Out: Everyone", I thought I'd make a few actual comments about the selection.

The first is that PR has a difficult decision to make about Jack Watts this week and next week. He's spent all year defending him in the media and he's tried him up on the wing so that he can get some easy touches and hope the pressure goes off him, but even PR must have been watching his lack of intensity and willingness to chase that proved so costly against a bunch of boys on Sunday.

So can he now forsake him at this late stage in the season? My guess is that PR will again remain faithful and there will only be a few changes.

The same principles apply a bit to a number of players who were quiet on Sunday - eg: Frawley, Dawes, Garland. PR has shown great loyalty to his senior group - how can he wield the axe now and if he does, is it a great message going into the off-season? Some might argue that it is the perfect message - it would give them a reminder that their spots are on the line so that they work harder in the summer.

Grimes is obviously injured and is one out.

Bail is a must for Perth because he runs all day and Pedersen showed great character in magoos and also must come back in - could he be a surprise tagging match-up for Nic Nat?

The two easy outs for Roosy (no damage to his senior harmony) are Dom Barry (glad he's got a few games now though) and Matt Jones (he was meant to step up after being axed and he has gone more back into his shell). Riley could be on shakey ground this week as well.

I would love to see Salem play down back - I've been banging on about how we are the only club without a left footer in our back half for a few weeks now and he has courage (just ask Davis) and tackles like a backman should. It would be nice to see him getting a few cheap kicks down there and with Grimes out, there's a spot for him. I'd also like to see Garland up forward again because he is not providing anything down back except spoils.

So for me it's:

Out: Grimes (inj), Barry, M.Jones and maybe Riley.

In: Pedersen, Bail, JKH and maybe Tapscott/McKenzie.

Team

B: Jetta (Cripps or Le Cras if he plays) Frawley (Kennedy) Dunn (McGovern)

HB: Howe McDonald (Darling) Salem

C: Bail Tyson Cross

HF: Garland Dawes Viney

F: JKH (only decent crumber we have) Gawn Kent

Ru: Jamar Vince N.Jones

Int: Pedersen, Michie, Riley

Sub: Watts (I've been banging on about this also for weeks. It's the one way Roosy can drop him without a media stir being created and he may come on for a quarter and play with actual intensity.)

FMD Riley out????? One of the few who at least goes hard at the ball and gets it!

Mc Kenzie is and never will be AFL Standard!

M Jones also NUTI!

Pedo Yes!

and play Watts at FF

Stress? What stress? I only find football stressful when a game is close.

Apparently Pedersen was best for Casey so I suspect he will come in along with Bail and Terlich (who I wouldn't play if I was selecting the side). I predict the outs will be Grimes (inj), Matt Jones and Riley. Barry doesn't really keep his spot on merit - rather he stays for the sake of personal development.

Frawley and Dunn should play in defence. And Watts should play on the wing. I'd also like to see Salem have a run on the ball. Otherwise he might freeze if he remains in the forward pocket all day. And any kicks he get have a better chance of finding a target than any of Matt Jones or Riley.

well yes seeing dumb footballers time after time can get you down plus as I still play and train i really hate having to front up to my football club in WA and get sympathy

Whilst the wrong side of 55 i kinda know after hundreds of games of footy what makes a footballer and we don't have many

I would get rid of watts any way the club can I honestly believe that his carefree attitude and great skill level without trying would burn a hole in the less gifted but harder working players and this may be the reason they don't kick to the pretty boy

Play Strauss. Seriously. He can kick, which places him above 80% of those who took the field yesterday.

If defensive accountability is the issue, he will be in good company.

100%DE last week wasn't it?

Play him. Roll the dice. Nothing to lose.

I say give Strauss and Blease one last chance to show what they can do before they get the axe. Both should do well offensively on the wide open spaces out West. We already know they don't defend well, but given how badly the rest of the side did this week what would it hurt? At least we know that they can both hit a target with a decent penetrating pass.

What is the point now?

If they play well, or even just OK, what do we do? Sign them up for another year, and watch them do nothing for 20 rounds again?

I don't want to see Matt Jones, Rohan Bail or Dan Nicholson in the side at all.

I would hope -

Out: Grimes, Jones, Barry, Riley

In: Pederson, Mckenzie, Tapscott, Strauss (may as well)

IF Strauss played well, and that's a big if, but it's possible, then we'd cross that bridge.

We can't delist half the squad. Some players will need to be kept for at least another year. I wouldn't mind seeing him have a couple of games to state his case, the same as Blease and Tapscott were given. How much more did Blease and Tapscott do really? The fact remains that in a team pleading for players with excellent kicking skills, we have one in waiting.

He's just turned 24. He hits his theoretical peak in 2 years. Watch Demonland go into meltdown if Strauss goes to another club and in a year or two becomes a cemented 22 player, while Roos never gave him a chance.

We're gonna get hammered anyway. Give him A chance. Even Evans and Nicholson have been granted that much.

Thanks for your sanity ENYAW. It grounds me and makes me realize how easy it is to become detached from reality. I look forward to the pearls of wisdom you scatter before us. Keep it up.

strangely (for me) i see something in barry (at least a glimmer)

worth persevering with for a while

Is it me or has this week felt soo much longer. I just want to see if that performance on Sunday was a one time thing like Freo vs St kilda, or if we really are that [censored].

I have news for you mon and it ain't good.

Not sure if it has been mentioned here,

I really liked that Mark Thompson came out and berated Joe Daniher about putting his hand up to play when he wasn't really fit to play after his collarbone injury, and called him selfish and not putting the team first.

I look at Grimes on the weekend, and the situation is no different, the one person that truly knew if he was fit to play was Grimes himself. The fact that he re-injured the same hamstring in basically the same place suggests he wasn't 100% right to me, and I would argue that Grimes isn't showing leadership by coming back from a hamstring earlier than he should. That action is selfish and 2 weeks for a hamstring injury (given Grimes history with back and hamstrings) is not what I would call a good example for the club, team or younger players.

I might be wrong, but it's not like we were playing for finals.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
