Wasn't that Silvagni he outmarked ?

He outmarked Silvagni.

But he outbodied Casboult in a 1 on 1 marking contest 30m out in the 2nd quarter.

Pound for pound.

Yeah, just saw the photo on the Foxfooty article re Jetta.

Great article by Anna Harrington.  I've liked a few of her articles.

He got 1 coaches vote. That is criminal.

Its likely that Bolton didnt give him a single vote.  Sad.

Don't argue with them either. They will bring you down to their level, then bet you with experience.

Nah, I remember that one too but pretty sure in the Punt Road pocket the ball was kicked into a  bunch of players. Nev came from behind and spoiled Casboult - I said outmarked but it was a spoil. Hard to do for a small bloke...

Idiot Richmond supporters are idiots

The way I saw it was that Simpson turned to try and block Jetta

He has a remarkable vertical leap. Hence why he can compete with the bigger markers.

He also has Frostie to thank for helping him out.

Exactly.  Frost went to cover Thomas and massively helped Nev out.  Nev's reaction time to spot Simpson running past and get over to cover him, then out-body him and win the ball was outstanding.  Great defensive team play that almost certainly saved the game for us.

Nev named in AFL Team of the Week.  His form is becoming hard to ignore!

LOL.  Absolutely!  (I can't claim credit for it anyway.  Found that little gem on Facebook!  - 'bout all FB is good for, mind you, tossing up the occasional gem like that!)

I pose this question: what makes Nev such a good player from a defensive perspective? Is it his balance or centre-of-gravity? Strength and tenacity? Positioning or body-work? Steady nerves and execution? He just biologically (as to AFL) seems to have no right to be as good as he is.

I've seen a lot of blokes look at him, and they say to themselves "no, too tough for me"

... which I have been having a running arguement about with some Blues [censored] at work for 2 days now.

Will not accept that the contest with Simpson at the end was fair, or the "illegal interference" on Thomas in the play just before that.

I just laugh at him, as I did when he claimed we were gifted 5 umpire goals from directly in front while they had none...

Delusional to the point where I dont even bother trying to argue anymore. Just nod and smile

we certainly were gifted some goals but not by the umpire, but by poor defensive play by carlscum players

I couldnt go unfortunately. Wish i could. I so much prefer watching footy live. I sit at the top od the ponsford where i would have seen what simpson had ahead of him if he won that ball.

The tv angle shits me. Just a tight focus, including the replays. Why not at least on the replay show the down the down the ground shot.

Ivw heard 3 diff versions of what was ahead of simpson from the media. Can someone who was tell me for certain please?

I watch that video this morning and couldn't believe how important that play was.

Defenders get it tough. A forward kicks the wiinning goal and is a hero. A defender saves a match losing goal and is doing his job.

I knew they were out watching on the TV, but I didn't realise just how out they were.  Nev loses that one on one and they could have strolled in and raffled the goal.

Nev actually went to ground. If Frostie hadn't come in, Carlton were away. Having said that, Nev's second effort once he got to his feet was great. I think it was a joint effort, but Frostie's efforts seem to have been overlooked.

Not by me. Loved the shrug and the afterburners. Belief in himself when everything was on the line. I'm really loving the trade deal that got us him, ANB and Omac.

The Jetta contact with Thomas was a legitimate attempt to go for the ball. Besides Thomas won the ball and handballed it to Simpson. Simpson initiated contact with Jetta. Nothing to complain about there.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
