Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Just by watching him aswell he looks to have put on a fair bit of weight since the draft too which is handy.
One thing i never knew he had was that acceleration from the contest. He gets it and just sprints off away from the packs and hits a target 45m up. Amazing maturity for someone so young.

And to think experts believe the other fella we drafted is just as good  .. Wowee we are going to have some fun in the next couple of years!

One of the most balanced hard nut first year players I can remember in my lifetime.

Not as flashy as e.g. Judd, but pure class nonetheless.

Better, more impact, IMVHO than Bontemp last year (though I must admit didn't watch a huge number of Dogs' games.)

His rate of improvement is like nothing I have seen at this club. I said it in another thread but I'll say it again he has no weakness to his game. First few games I thought brilliant, he is a kid who is as tough as they come and brilliant defensively but could use some composure with the ball in hand, something that will come in the next year or 2. Then in the collingwood game he showed that he had that composure and balance with the ball and was instrumental in setting up our forward thrusts and assisting goals. Then in the last couple of games he had showed that he has breakaway pace and is a daring player. He just keeps showing more and more with every game he plays. The sort of player that is just so easy to coach. Selfless, tough, athletic, skilled, good in close and in space. Great defensively yet also a weapon with ball in hand. That play where he intercepted that Selwood kick was amazing. He could have gone back on the mark and looked for a target and played it safe but decided he had the pace to burn through the middle take a bounce and set up Spence for a goal. What sort of 10 gamer has the confidence let alone the ability to do that? I don't usually like making big sweeping statements but I will for Gus, he will be our best mid since Flower played for the Dees. Despite Jones' consistent performances the last few years, Gus has more weapons in his arsenal to dominate. Actually that's not even a big call, I think most see this in him now.

Also I'm not sure if anyone knows with any certainty, but we rated him above McCartin and Petracca didn't we?

I think we would have taken him over CP if we didn't have the Frawley compo pick, but of course there is no way to know or prove it

Agreed - about a month ago it looked like maybe he was slowing down a bit, feeling the brunt of a first year workload, but he seems to have gotten even better somehow. When you see him near the ball you just feel confident he will win it/do the right thing with it/destroy his opponent if he dares try to get it

I was surprised he only had 20 possessions, it felt like 25-30

It's because of the damage and effect he had with those 20 possessions that made it seem like more. Plus there were plenty of plays where he didn't get a touch but was very influential, ie. bone-crunching tackles

If we did he would have been chosen with pick 2 I would have thought.

We rated Heeney higher than both.

Which is his favoured foot? I've watched this closely, and when he's kicking to his right side he uses his left, to the left he uses his right. I honestly haven't seen a two footer as good as him excepting Sam Mitchell. He's almost as good as Gus. ;)

Yep, a very Bernie Vince thing to do, in the best possible way. He loves his footy that man. He's up there, but def a right footer when he can.

Love him, that smother yesterday was fantastic.

Just shows how he makes every single touch count. I felt exactly the same last night.

If Petracca is supposed to be better than Brayshaw then we have absolutely struck gold with these two.

I couldn't believe our luck when they called out McCartin's name.

Haha Roosy really knew how to wear that mullet. Celebratory mullets all round!

love love love him. But I think Jones basically mentoring him has helped a lot. The man just doesnt miss a tackle.

Forgot about Jones mentoring Brayshaw. What a bloke our Nathan is.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
