Tonights loss burns. Haven t been so gutted about a loss in a long time.

But we are building toward something good, and I have no doubt we can beat Richmond.

We can only hope so. Very much looking forward to seeing Riley get a run.

I would agree.
If Pig Dog has some solid VFL form behind him, then we should bring him in for Shagger.
I am not a Byrnes hater but this will clearly be his last year. It must be. Great career and all but he is pretty symbolic of 2012/2013's 'Moneyball' approach and how it failed.

Pig Dog for Shagger? Love it, great names!

I think Byrnes must have some dodgy photos of Roos. Can't imagine any other reason why he keeps getting a game.

I watched Byrnes a lot last night and he chases and shepherds. His best is clearly behind him; but Melbourne at this moment needs players who show example by doing the 1%ers 100% of the time.

I agree that its probably time that Byrnes had a spell, but im not as down on him as alot it seems. i agree with Ickey, his best work is off the ball, little things, and also he was burnt a couple of times last night, should have been given to him first option, but they didnt and then ended up getting it but it ws a poor handpass.

But i do agree it might be time.

Also, Salem has to play a full game now. Its time.

I'd like to see Riley in, but I was just thinking that with the bye coming up, just leave it as it is and make sure everyone is cherry ripe for the Round 10 and on wards.

Did you mean BDSM Col?

I know that would be up your alley BBO but alas, I don't think too many blokes in that subculture would be known as Pig Dog.

out: Byrnes, Bail, Terlich

ins: Blease, Riley, Clisby

Byrnes does not do enough to deserve a game. Bail plays in patches and misses too many tackles and disposal is 50/50. Even before his concussion, Terlich had some clangers & fumbled.

Bail?

i think he has earned his spot in the team - has potential as a half forward who can rotate through the middle.

At least the kid tries to tackle (had 7 tackles - third most) - unlike a couple in the team. He provides important run and carry.

At least this time you had the grace to name Clisby instead of Tapscott this time, but your idea of dropping Bail and Terlich is no better than it was last night. Dropping Bail is particularly laughable; he's one of our side's hardest runners, he gets in space and his ball use has improved significantly. I get the impression that the coach is a fan.

Dodgy is my favourite word. But Brynes is my least favourite player. He doesn't do enough. He is not part of our future. I know Pederson kicked a goal, but I thought it was a lucky kick looking to bomb it forward. He always looks tired and gets to the contest late. Bail doesn't do enough.

I'd bring in Clisby for Terlich if injured. Fitzpatrick for Pederson and one of Blease/Tompous and play them for 6 games and get some game time into them. I will b annoyed if Brynes keeps getting a game at the expense of kids.

We need some creativity and class but we have few of these in the starting 22 let alone playing well at Casey.

Blease has only played 1 good game in a row so may not be considered. I would give him a go just for his outside run and line breaking potential.

Or Kent. Although he has now missed a game I rally like this kid.

OUT: Terlich (inj), Byrnes

IN: Kent, Blease

People don't realise that the reason we are shutting teams down well and creating contests everywhere is because players all over the field are doing unfashionable hard work. Chasing, pressuring, tackling, harassing .....

I think that keeping those players who are creating this culture and backing it up several weeks in a row deserve to stay in the team unless either they stop doing those things, or somebody in the VFL absolutely smashes the door down with their performances.

I think that we'll see no change again, but Salem will get a full game (just as JKH spent several games as a sub before getting a full game).

Byrnes is the best of a bad bunch I think. I'm happy to swap him for Kent when Kent is ready, but until then I would persevere with Byrnes. I'm glad that Blease had a good game at Casey, but from Allison's reports, he's coming from a long way back. I can't see Roos playing a player whose biggest knock is his ability to apply pressure. That is completely at odds with the way we have been approaching the game. Once I've read that Blease has applied at AFL intensity for three weeks in a row, I'd start considering him then. Allison even uses those exact words, so it'll be easy for us to know when he's done it.

When will people realise there is no longer an attitude of shifting the deck chairs on a weekly basis. Unless you are not attempting to play your role or unless someone consistently smashes it at Casey there will not be changes. Calls for Blease who has had one week of getting some decent ball in or Bail to be dropped who is running his guts out and has one of our highest tackle counts is laughable. The only two I would expect that will be considered will be Riley or Clisby who have put multiple weeks of good form together but truthfully I expect no change.

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
