Have to say I get pretty sick of pointing this out on this forum - basketball is not a proxy for 'softness'. For what it is worth, I have never, never had to consider not attacking a basketball because I might get suspended for rough conduct and I have plenty of broken bones to show for it.

You should come up with a more articulate way of venting frustration.

Go and watch basketball then u !!!!!!!!

i am amazed that the fact that he kept his eye on the ball and gathered the ball after the collision did not demonstrate that was what he was going for.

Another cheap shot?

Don't have the cognition to debate?

Never mind.

What's to debate, your in the same class as Barrett, Caro and Dwayne... Enjoy their company.

Has nothing to do with contact or non-contact, but whether players play hard or not. I just get fed up with people using my other sport as a cheap way of illustrating wimpiness.

What sport is that UD Synchronized swimming?

Ive re read your post and think I know what you allude to but it cant be done. He actually tried to. It inherrent in the nature of the game that ppl will come together...and hurt. This wasnt a malicious manouvre. It was a piece of play in which a few blokes went at it.....and crunch.

The correct observation is....unfortunate ...and we all move on. Short of pre-determining all outcomes of this game there will always be "occurrences"

it is just the game

Okay.

I agree. I had a bad feeling about this, but I'm more philosophical than most.

The head is guarded...done, dusted, fin.

And this one is even better. If you could read, let alone comprehend, which you clearly can't, you'd probably know the answer.

When Gleeson referred to spinning out of the way, apparently (according to Graeme Bond who was at the hearing) he was merely providing example of what Viney thought he could have done. At no point did he put it to Viney that he should have spun out of the way. Journalists have misrepresented him there.

We don't need to adduce fresh evidence to appeal. We simply need to show there was an error of law or that no reasonable Tribunal could have come to this decision - either of these options (the latter one is better) are open to us. Legally, that seems to me to be a good argument to us, but the risk of the suspension going up may sway us in favour of just accepting the 2 weeks (which is why IMO they gave the 2 weeks).

Okay.

I agree. I had a bad feeling about this, but I'm more philosophical than most.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you that the head is sacrosanct, nor do I think anyone is disagreeing with you that the head should be protected by AFL rules.

It's not that. It's the application of those rules to this case. Specifically, it's the application of those rules to a situation in which a player did not bump, and even if he did, had no realistic alternative in the circumstances.

Can't bump? Kids can't tackle. Kids can't play to win. Might as well go and play a violin because there is no contact #thisisajoke

All @AFLPlayers need to come together on this one and do something about it #VineyGate

On top of this Lids gets off. His suspension went from 2 weeks to reprimand. Can we have his lawyers.

Great to hear the support from the AFL coaches and players. Have even found some respect for Dermie -he is boycotting Hall of Fame dinner in protest. I have never seen such an outcry.

When will the AFL realise that the fans and players want the game to remain the physical one it always has been. Ban thugs not fair players

The AFL have already had a bad year - you would think they would just let this one go. This is a great opportunity to make your stamp on the game Gillon Mclachlan.

Not ever before has there been a tribunal decision that demands an appeal more than this.

We simply must appeal this decision.

It's time to draw a line in the sand MFC. I'm genuinely sick of seeing us whipped unfairly and then roll over and accept it.

Make it hard for these mongrels. Prepare the appeal documents now.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
