Far and away Jetta's best game. Gave Betts a bath, which I loved! Funny how last week many people were calling for him to be asked and never in the squad again. This is the difference between Roos and Neeld, Roos backs players in and gives them confidence that they can do the job.

There's something particularly satisfying about seeing someone who's struggled through his career smash a player that the media adore.

The thing is Jetta didn't really provide a lot of run. He's not good at that. And him cramping in the last quarter is a worry. He wasn't played forward as he was in his first 2 weeks back at times. He was thrown a good opponent and told to use his strengths which are that he's a damn pest one on one. Very good tackle, stronger than he looks and reads the play coming in.

I'm keen to see him back it up but the trade mark Roos about the situation was that he put a guy in a position to do what he's good at.

Jetta played on Betts and kept him quiet. That would've surprised me before the game. Jetta played on Betts and not only kept him quiet but took strong over head contested marks by really clever positioning. That I wouldn't ever believe. I'm going to watch at least the first half again to just revel in how good Jetta (and Grimes and others) were in the backline. Adelaide got one goal in the first minute and another in the last minute of the entire half!

Funny how last week many people were calling for him to be axed and never in the squad again.

As soon as I see absolute statements like "he should never be selected again", or "leave him at Casey for six weeks to find form", or "young players should find their feet for a year in the seconds", I immediately discount them.

The only absolute statement I'll accept is that there are no absolutes.

Just finished watching the game and it was even better than I expected. I was really impressed with how hard the team fought it out in the last quarter. A few thoughts:

Watts was so much better than the past few weeks. He really did put in the effort to chase, tackle and generally pressure them.

JKH was insanely good for a player in his seventh game.

Jetta still doesn't think before kicking, but his defensive game was great.

Tom McDonald continues to grow as the primary defender with Frawley playing in the forward line.

Dawes is earning his pay. His work was brilliant all night, as was his leadership.

Viney was a steal. There is no way we should have gotten him for a second round pick. Awesome player.

Salem still needs to get his head around the speed and rhythm of the game at this level, but the class is there.

We had no passengers this week.

Very happy with this game, even if it was the only one I got wrong for the round.

ADELAIDE v MELBOURNE
(Ashley Porter)
Jack Viney (Melbourne) 8
Chris Dawes (Melbourne) 8
Patrick Dangerfield (Adelaide) 8
Bernie Vince (Melbourne) 7
Sam Jacobs (Adelaide) 7

The Age have got to be kidding putting Sam Jacobs in the votes. What a joke

Frawley is disinterested.

Disagree. He's been much better in recent weeks.

Also, what has been missing from his game is the run - those two bounces streaming through the middle were awesome. I know he missed the goal, but you don't run like that without being interested. And it brings back the attacking side to his game, which has been missing too.

If cramping in the last quarter when you're ahead is a "worry," then we need to be worried about half the players in the league.

When you think about it, we really have had some incredible drafting and trading success in the last couple of years.

Discounting negatives, we've brought in Viney, Salem, Tyson, JKH, Cross, Vince and Kent, even Matt Jones, Pedersen and Terlich have been successes if you really get down to it. That is an incredibly high success rate.

That's a huge hit rate and, despite the haters, does stretch back to Neeld's time.

It also doesn't include guys like Michie and Hogan who aren't even on the park yet, or Toumpas, who will be fine in the end.

Realistically, we probably won't finish too high this year, and another pick up like Salem around pick 3-7 (hopefully), with a decent free agent and another steal down the draft, starts to make us look pretty good.

I was unlucky enough to be at a wedding during the game and was unable to watch it. I did keep checking the scores and was getting a bit worried towards the end with the score updates.

Yesterday i watched the game knowing the outcome but still i was yelling at the stupid decisions from the umps and i dont know how you all watched/listened to the game live without having a heart attack. I started to get nervous and i knew the result..

It would have been amazing to been there and soak it up. Great game and good to see they boys didnt fold under all that pressure.

Go Dees

Watched the last Q this morning.

Jeebers we were lucky Sloane hit the post....!

Football is littered with thousands of possible match turning lucky or unlucky moments. That was a common one.

To name a few more costly lucky or unlucky moments in footy.

Pettards dropped mark.

Simon Eishold's miss from 1 metre.

Lenny Hayes kick takes 120 degree ball bounce also 1 metre from goal.

Wayne Harmes applying the cloak of invisibility to the boundary line.

Stynes infringing on the mark.

The only relevance is that we got the four points.

I was at Groovin the Moo and I knew the outcome too but watched the replay when I got home and stupidly felt ill in the last 10 minutes with nervousness - what if the digital universe got it wrong ?????

if the dogs aren't seriously worried about playing us on the G they should be! I reckon we are going to come out all guns blazing again

in the words of Jack Viney " when we play to our structures, we win, the opposition, venue, crowd, conditions is all irrelevant."

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
