Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Rarely does getting stuck in make up for a lack of talent Dockett.

However if we don't have a red hot go from the start it will be ugly by three quarter time.

No it doesn't but it certainly evens the ledger and certainly reduces the odds on getting absolutely pummelled. It's why we got within a point of the Pies round 2, 2010.

I don't believe in honourable losses but if the boys give everything and leave nothing in the tank and do their best I can't ask for anything more.

wouldn't the logic be NOT to bring back underdone players against spud sides because you don't really need them?

If you wanted to get games into players would you 'carry' them against good teams or play them against bad teams you look down upon as a backwater of football civilisation?

Good to see Byrnes back in - he's our best exponent of the kick into the man on the mark.

I raise you Jeremy Howe.

He had some crackers last year, and the ones that didn't were some of the best hospital kicks going around.

Ha!

Actually, he got too close last week while having one of those set shots in the second half and didn't make the distance.

The irritating thing - the very, very, very irritating thing - is that you can see it coming a million miles away..

i'd give them another week in the twos , till they are match fit, and take 22 players not including your star which should be adequate for the special ed opponent

big game against a tough opponent i'd be thinking we need that star in even if he's underdone

How he can run, judge the flight path of a ball, jump on a guys back and take an epic mark time and time again but not take a few extra steps back off the mark is beyond me!

It's worse up on level 2 or 3 where you can get a better view of it...

I'm fairly sure Roos and Watts would have had a stern discussion Monday about the non negotiables. If we see that performance again this week, he's as good as dropped IMO.

I agree.

But im glad that Roos understands how important Watts is too Melbourne, as he adds class where we dont have any. Watts and Salems kicking skills are so exciting. CLASSS

Probably not, because playing the Dees would be perceived as the equivalent of playing a VFL side and low-risk.

Not fair, but deserved given our form.

After such a rubbish effort last week, he did not deserve to be in the team.

The rest of the boys need to pick their act up.

Also isnt the tackle machine Cross? he loves a good tackle

Yes he deserved to be dropped. Not sure where he fits into the team. One supposedly good game against Ablett doesn't constitute a career. Modern day taggers need to be able to hurt teams going the other way and tackle, something he fails to do more often than not. In the first couple of weeks star players were not only racking up 30+ touches but also accumulating large tackle numbers. Wouldn't even muster a pick in the 60's so were stuck with him.

Yes, Cross should be dubbed " The Tackle Machine".

Agree. It is not too difficult to stay back an extra metre and ensure your kick goes over the man on the mark.

We seem to be masters at stuffing it up. Several of our players do it.

Can anyone explain the rationale behind bringing back has-beens like Byrnes in the side? May as well have kept Evans in the side.

It grieves me to say it but Byrnes is a long way in front of Evans, Mckenzie etc .

It reflects the sad state of our list unfortunately

The tackle machine dropped. Where to now?

Deserved to be dropped. Terrible game. Needs to work on disposal and his tackling. Gave away around 3 head high tackles from memory.

Don't know what has happened to Jordie. There is a place for him at his best but when he drops below that he is a liability.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
