Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Players to target at the end of the year

they traded McEvoy to the Hawks ? do the hawks owe them for that?

what can the hawks spare, that will help the aints?

http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/football/players/senior

If anything the saints owe the Hawks for taking McEvoy off their hands. They got a great deal for him and it's even better if Savage keeps the form he was in yesterday.

The saints were just saying they'll listen to offers as all clubs will.

Patty McCartin looks a decent prospect at number 1 but he's not a sure thing like Patton/Boyd IMHO. Someone like North who need a replacement for Petrie and are in their window would have to offer the Saints their first round pick, plus a nice player like Cunnington etc.

But the saints wont give up pick 1 unless they get a Tyson like deal which brings them a potential elite player as part of the deal. And it would have to be even better than the Tyson deal on paper to get them interested.

McEvoy is doing fine & will develop further at the Hawks. for savage? a big follower ruck for a little lightweight. the hawks wouldn't give up a future gun, as they age... & Cyril with hammy issues.

GWS haven't wanted to lose Boyd, or Patton, & I wondered why last year, with so many Talls. I now think the answer was in Cameron's pending contract. If Cameron stays there, they may well trade one. If he goes, imo they'll try to keep both.

.... the Saints, as I alluded to, will be a competitor against us for a trade, with there better pick. they will be after Mids as well. as will the Hawks if they get the No-1 pick from Saints, or a 3 way deal to get a Mid. Interesting we are all competing for the Mids this year.... Us, Saints, Hawks, Cats, etc. with the Saints holding the Ace.

What have the Hawks/Cats got, to win that pick from the Saints?

Of course they will, but the saints don't have the better part of 2 mil spare in their salary cap either, we have massive dollars to throw around

the other thing to consider is what could another team offer that is going to be worth as much as a really good young key forward to the saints?

and they might well not finish last in any case

Jeff Garlett bludging, standing on one leg could kick 35 goals a year sitting in the forward pocket.

Doesnt tackle though.

I actually like the idea of getting him as a forward pocket, he can play that role and JKH can play further up the field.

either JKH or Garlett aren't our answer IMO. to light, in todays contested footy. JKH good to link up with acceleration, but lacks top speed.

Garlett's a small robbo, no thanks... another 'look at me'. not a page from the Wiz's book.

we need a modern byron. one who wants to run down & bulldog the opponent, wants to work hard, & wants to be a team player. JK-H with more size-strength, & top pace.

young Picket in the draft sounds likely. all round game with the tenacity.

Make of this what you will but apparently a $500,000 offer on the table for paul Stewart of PA from us & the Gold Coast ....

I think this could work for the Dees! Trade Stewart in, and immediately on-trade him to Gold Coast for any one of their mids. They can pay him whatever they like!

Not claiming to be a expert but I don't think you can do that under the AFL rules

Aw well ... it was a very 'tongue in cheek' post anyway!

A word of warning for anyone expecting us to have a massive hope in the cap as a result of Frawley leaving:

Yes, he was paid well, but it was a front-loaded contract, hence him being not in the top 10 earners at the club, and as a result being an UFA at this early stage.

I understand we will have Mitch Clark's salary to make up, but I wouldn't expect us to have a $2mil hole to fill.

And to be honest, if we did have to fill a $2mil cap hole in this offseason, I'd find that terrifying.

No wonder there's rumours of chasing Cameron.

We currently pay 95% of the cap. In 2015 the cap will be set at $10.071 million. There's $500k right there.

Clark retiring - 650k

Byrnes retiring - 200k

Frawley - 300k (not in the top 9 highest paid players at the club)

For every further de-listing we're likely to have another 100 to 200 freed up. I'm speculating that we will de-list Nicholson, Mckenzie (tough call), Strauss and possibly Tapscott. De-listing those 4 would leave us a further 500k or so.

Give or take a little those 7 players I listed above + the fact that we only pay the minimum cap currently mean we're likely to have $2.15million right there. We've re-signed Dunn, Mcdonald and Hogan on bigger contracts, from memory there haven't been any other significant signings this year. Between them I'd estimate a combined earnings raise of no more than 550k per year, bringing the total down to about $1.6million to spend on 7 new senior list players (incl. draftees).

As I understand it, Hogan's alleged $500,000pa only begins in 2016, as he's still on the initial 2 year beginners wage until the end of next year that all kids get when they first start. So his contract won't impact until 2016.

Channel 9 just had a 'whats coming up in sport section' with a picture of Jeremy Cameron kicking a footy to them saying "more Giants in the Demoms sights?"

"could the Demons be about to lure some Giamts superstars back home"

Well??

Look I wouldn't say no to Dylan Shiel, Adam Treloar, Josh Kelly and Jeremy Cameron coming to the dees in exchange for Dan Nicholson and a fourth rounder.

So 2 people mentioned there would be a news report on the MFC chasing Jeremy Caermon on 9 news

And not one person has posted about it? Did they not air the story or something?

It was pretty brief. Dom Tyson saying that some of the Giants might be homesick and not happy playing in the scooby doo's. The coverage showed footage of J. Cameron but his name wasn't actually mentioned Edited by The Great One 99

Gibbs is definitely an A grader, not even a question.

Kruezer is C grader based on the last 2 years, even when he has played, he's been average.

It'd be very harsh to not give Gibbs the title of A grader, he will rack up brownlow votes, you'll see.

I don't label someone an A grader until they do it consistently. Was Wowoedin an A grader? This is Gibbs' first consistent season. And yep, he will get some Brownlow votes. If he does it again next year, he'll be an A grader in my eyes. Just my opinion though.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
