Viney does things those boys cant. Alot of Macrae's possessions are cheap and useless. Wines is very good, but there are some key things he lacks.

What does Viney do that they can't? What does Wines lack? You could argue Macrae can do things that neither the other two can do? Statements with some back up would help your position. Again Viney is coming along great but my rose coloured glasses aren't on either.

I just read on the HS website that we are linked to Shaun Higgins and Jarryn Geary.

People's thoughts on these 2?

I would have thought Higgins might be a bit too old and injury prone but Geary might be a handy acquisition

Higgins has the class and skills we lack but lacks run and heart in my opinion. Geary is under rated. Interesting that Higgins was dropped I wonder if you can read anything into his demotion.

I'm not convinced the bulldogs are trying anything sneaky by dropping him. Simply they've got a few players back and are finally not afraid to drop some senior players.

My thoughts on Higgins are that he's that fringe player with a lot of talent who at 26 could still give you 5 years of really good footy but could also slide off in to oblivion. Maybe a touch more well rounded but similar to Xavier Ellis last year. I'd take him because we have a need for skill at half back but I wouldn't aggressively chase him

Geary is younger and better, he'd be a great pick up and for that reason I reckon he'll either go to Geelong or another big club or stay at the saints. There's no inducement Melbourne can offer I don't think.

If it were a choice between Treloar and Shiel, then I'd go for Treloar... Shiel looks a solid player, but Treloar is in the top ten midfielders in the comp this year... Easy choice really...

Seems to be a massive group crush thing happening here with Shiel... I'd say Cameron and Treloar are way better players than Shiel...

As would most.

What they would cost and whether GWS would let them go, are entirely different things however.

Sorry my bad with spelling but will cop constructive criticism not just being a smartarse for the sake of it. Is there any point passing on info that is reliable ....I don't get any brownie points for doing this....we all love the same team don't we. I am sure all teams would love DYLAN SHIEL but realistically not every team has any hope of getting him. So I guess only the teams that are in a position to bid for him would ? Oh & Machy don't personally know him so point not taken !

Fair enough, but in not knowing Shiel, it can hardly be "literally from the horse's mouth" (which is hilarious in its own right).

I would actually question whether a player in Shiel's position would even be aware which teams had interest and were chasing him in a trade at this juncture.

If you believe Tyson, he wasn't at this stage of last season.

There's a chance that with all the other possibilities, that Roos & co weren't even interested in him specifically, either, at that stage.

This isn't FA after all, so it's not purely about piquing the interest of the target.

But you need 2 things for a trade like this to work: the player to want to come to your club; and the assets to trade that will satisfy all parties involved.

Gibbs has been good this season, but he's cusp b grader. Meanwhile, Kruezer would be lucky to be a b grader on output thus far. Why the spotlight hasn't fallen on him, I'll never know. Oh yeah. He plays at Carlton. What a joke.

Gibbs is a top level AFL midfielder. Deal with it.

Kruezer, however, well... something went wrong there.

And that lack of run and heart makes it a no for me too. While the skills would be handy that lack of heart is just what we don't need right now as a club going forward.

Geary, however, is someone worth looking at for the right price.

That HS article seems like it is based on speculation more than anything else so I wouldn't read too much into it.

How can you say Geary is younger and better when he is also 26 years old and has hardly gotten on the park this year..

Could be a possibility under Roos tutelage! Thoughts?

Not sure what trade value geary would have

I'd hate to suggest it but surely if we finish bottom 3 again an application for a priority pick will be made, we're sitting on 37 wins in 8 seasons

we should have got one last year... I'd be disappointed if we didn't ask... We have been butchered in the media over draft picks, but if any club needs one its us... 8 years in the bottom 4, I'm surprised we still have supporters...

Well I thought there would be more of a age gap, but technically he is younger!

And whilst suffering a freak injury that's different to Higgins' repeat injuries.

I think he's faster, a better tackler, a better run and carry player and about as good as kick as Higgins. Higgins is stronger in the air, but not as good defensively and not as fast and aggressive as a rebounding player.

If we recruited either of them it would be for an attacking and kicking back flanker which we don't have. Geary would fill that role where as I think Higgins would be ok at it but he doesn't even do it at the dogs, Murphy takes the main responsibility for attacking run, hence why Higgins is out of the team for someone like Jason Johannisen. Geary could be used in the midfield as well, where as Higgins you wouldn't risk his body in the midfield.

I don't know if he meant to hit cox in the head, but there was definite intent, was high impact and he knocked him out cold. Long holiday for the [censored]. Provoked or not. Dog act.

Viney can burst out of packs with regularity, i havent seen Wines or Macrae do that. Macrae has received alot of flack for possession use.

Viney can run into two players and keep gonig.

He is a rare breed in inside ball

Well that certainly settles that debate. I give up.

Viney very good for all the reasons provided but the stats say and I agree that Wines is a better player!

Both with a lot to like and would have complemented each others game but alas it was not to be!

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
