Changes v Carlton - Round 4

If Garland could also come in for Georgiou that would be good but I don't think it will happen. Bail, Byrnes, Pedo and Fitzy are players that would be first to be replaced if possible. Would rather McKenzie, Trenners, Strauss or Jetta over Byrnes.

With Clark now retired can we upgrade Jetta?

I think you will find we already used Clark being on the LTI to upgrade Georgiou.

The right up of Aidan Riley in his first game back is a good sign of something to look forward to:

Aidan Riley: Aidan was as tough as nails. It was a very good first up effort. He was returning from a serious leg injury. He peeled himself off the deck from numerous contests, winning or neutralising contest after contest. He needs more time playing and training to get his fitness levels up, after such a long stint on the sidelines, but he was very impressive.

Why? How long has he been on the list? Why promote NQRs?

Our ability to control the footy could be massive this round, Carlton love running ahead of the ball and getting on top of the game.

A fit Garland, Gawn and/or Dawes would do wonders to our structure. Not going against a top ruckman should really help our clearances. Could see Clisby coming in. Don't think Trenners will be back just yet, a few more weeks to tear up the VFL could be great for him.

Pedo needs to stay back I think. I wouldn't play Byrnes - I'd start JKH and possibly have a Clisby as sub, a role I see Riley playing very soon with any luck...

Warnock is a decent tap ruckman. Much better than Spencer, that's for sure...

Don't rate him. At all.

Can anyone see Mckenzie come in for a negation role?

From memory at his time at the Swans, Roos wasn't big on it? However Jordie's 37 touches last week might get him over the line? Certainly prefer him to Byrnes (yes, I'm aware they don't play the same role).

I reckon we r a real chance in this game.

When I saw the Carlton players walking off after the game last wk they reminded me of the MFC players last season.

By that I mean they looked disinterested, dejected, confused and unhappy.

I know that they lost big time but I don't think all is well under mick just like under our previous coach.

They may come out all fired up in the first few mins but hopefully we can take it and settle and WIN a game of footy for once.

Geez that would be nice. If we can limit our turnovers we r a real chance.

As a matter of interest, if you were to tag anyone in Carlton's side, who would it be (not counting Judd who won't be playing)? Murphy? Simpson? anyone else?

Play Jordie on their captain.

He may very well shade Spence but he's some way off being decent I'm afraid.

Ben Guthrie on twitter:

"Chris Dawes looked like a man eager to return. Trained strongly today. Might slot back into @melbournefc's AFL side."

On Garland: "Unlikely to play this week, I'd say. Probably another week away"

I like this team, I reckon Howe adds another dimension to the backline in terms of intercept marking and run, good bit of grunt around the ball which is where i reckon we can expose carlton.

the only changes i'd make is i'd start Viney on the ball and Mckenzie on the bench, would like to see a really physical opening couple of minutes because i reckon the blues aren't great at that side of the game, and Dunn and Dawes to swap, i reckon Dunn and Vince are the two that if we can't get a mark inside 50 they can have a ping from outside and you'd be confident they will land a good amount of attempts, again another dimension to the team

Ok, I am not going to react to Dawes being back until Saturday approx. 1.45 and the siren has gone to start the game and he is out there...

I might save mine until about 20 past 4... But I'm just a cautious kind of guy.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
