This is as faithfully quoted as possible, on the run:

Neil cordy writes in the HUN ...After just two games, its clear to see why the Giants last week extended his (Kelly) contract to 2017. It is also clear to question why Melbourne gave away its rights to Kelly in pre-draft dealings last season, in exchanging picks No.2 and 20 for pick no 9 and Dom Tyson...

Tyson, 20, has been one of the Dees best players so far this season and was their leading ball winner yesterday...

But Kelly, 19, has shown signs of greatness in his two games as sub.

As noted, Tyson had 25 possessions, 10 clearances.

This was 6 more clearances than any other Melbourne player.

Only Treloar and Cognilio had more and they were roving to Mumford who was outstanding.

Neil Cordys best: M Jones, Howe, Frawley, Watts, Jones.

It's easy to pile on the unsuccessful club, but this is just a nonsense. Tyson not included in the best either demonstrates a failure to understand the game, or an attempt to colour a pretty poorly thought out article.

Its easy to do as we have the worst team in the league.

Listening to Finey on SEN last night and he spoke about how he was lucky enough to go to a few Grammar games last season, and witnessed Kelly absolutely tearing the games apart. Said the kids an absolute freak and there was only one other player playing who was on par with him, who also shred the games and opposition he saw to pieces. That player was Christian Salem.

So i recon pick 2 and 20, for Tyson and Salem is a bloody beauty.

we knew Kelly was going to be a gun, this really shouldn't come as a surprise

Tyson has shown enough that in combination with my opinion of Salem i am still very comfortable with the decision we made

He has also said Jayden Hunt could be better than both

no he didn't, what he actually was he was a steal by us, as when Shawy invited him down to watch one time, Hunt played a better game than those 2. So based on that he may be better someday. Which really isn't such a bad thing for us is it?

Geeze with your ability to create "facts from fiction" you could get a job at the HUN.

No, i said he HAS said it. He said it a couple of times in the week after the draft and that he umpired a couple of his games I think.

I rarely read the Hun and this article emphasises why.

Just poor journalism.

Tyson keeps me wanting to go to the football, there's still plenty of improvement for him but he's shown himself to be a very worthy pick up and a value trade with Salem still to come. People will be crying for Roos to play Salem but I think Roos will stay the course and let him develop with less pressure.

Matt Jones as our best player was probably the best indicator that he bases his post-game write-ups on stats not vision.

Journalism is a sorry industry these days. They wonder why we don't pay for the paper anymore...

Tyson is only solid becauase he had two years development at the Giants.

If we took Kelly as a rookie he would not be playing the way he currently is. I'm happy with Dom and Salem.

Posted

The pundits can say what they want about Kelly. He'll most likely be a star, but early signs are that we got the Tyson/Salem deal right. A rare win.

Been happy with Tyson so far but how many times did he get pinged for holding the ball yesterday, trying to do too much.

Should've been listed in our best.

It would've been a great deal less amount of times if he had some mates going with him, knowing where to run and backing themselves and their teammate to break a line.

Watching the top teams it only highlights how important it is to know your role intimately, back your team mates and always be on the move.

We have so far to go, I don't hope Tyson changes that part of his game - I hope his teammates change theirs!

Spot on 45. Our 5 year players refuse to learn anything.

Tyson's stats are very good with the exception of tackles. He only had 1 and needs to stick a couple more.

Tyson is head and shoulders above the majority of our midfield and one of our few quality players, I have never seen Salem other than a few training session preseason but he looks skillful and has some pace. I think potentially this was a very good deal for the Dees getting a ready to go potential A grader in Tyson and having Salem coming in to the side later this season or next year.

I dont read the HUN or News.com because the reporting is rubbish and dont want to waste my eyes on it. Its not surprise the reporting is lazy, sessasionalist and without basis. They are a pack of flogs

Mixed him up with the Matt Jones who just won the Houston Open golf.

i do apologise, i thought you were having a dig at me. It's very tense round these parts of late.

Actually TFSK I find it quite the reverse I have never known Demonland to be this quite and polite.

Might be that now the vast majority have a similar view of our situation.

It's an area of his game he needs to work on, I'm sure the coach will be on top of this.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
