We all know that Trengove had groin injuries in his last couple of years, and tbh he doesn't look close to recovered.

I also don't think he's suited to big grounds - he has solid endurance, but cannot get across the ground with any pace whatsoever, which really limits him on grounds like the G.

Whilst we have no forward line, we are in for a world of pain. GWS will carve us up in the middle, and their forward line is what we dream about. Tom Boyd to debut next week, perhaps?

The difference between us and the Eagles is that they took Masten at 3 and we took Morton at 4, look at what the respective clubs did with developing that talent, tells you everything you need to know.

Yeah, they developed Masten in to a really good player and dumped Morton after one season, what's your point?

given the nature of the fact that ALL grounds are rather large what in that critique really suggests hes suited to AFL at all...just asking

these are a nature of questioning that needs to be HONESTLY appraised

Can he play at this level, effectively ...at all.??

I don't care about 20 metres, it's about the first five metres.

Clint I think we are talking the same thing but I don't believe I have seen a 5 meter time trial measure. We are both talking about acceleration, reaction time, it is very important for forwards and inside midfielders. People become backman because they lack acceleration and overcome that by reading the play, so do a lot of outside mids as well, I think.

I have a feeling Trengove may not have done Draft Camp because he was playing SANFL finals maybe!

The closest I could find about the draft camp results were here.

This is the point. Has Trengove had groin problems? We have never had that news from the club that I remember. More so we cut him that slack that he must have OP or something similar to explain his lack of speed and acceleration. Who has the proof that he is injured?

Genuine forward pocket, HF flanker.

Needs to play deep.

Slow as, but keeps his feet, good overhead mark and fairly reliable from 30-40m out.

i agree..out of the way and can use his talent.. speed not of essence but guile is.

problem is though...he cant kick for shilt now.. how many times has he fluffed 40 m ?? just saying.

love that if he did nt

We need to get real...the list is stuffed currently.. Some very arduous decisions await

The only logical explanation now is that he never had it.

Ill accept he did,,,but the body now constrains

Trengove did the state screening that year because he was in the SANFL GF. From memory he had a 2.97 second (ish) 20m sprint and a 15+ beep test.

His problem isn't his first few steps, it's his top end speed. That's why he looks slow in space. Trengove needs to play as an inside midfielder. The closer you get to each end of the ground the more important it is that you have pace.

Deep forward or back is the worst spot for someone who lacks speed.

Plus you nullify his best athletic asset: his endurance.

Thanks for that Clint looks like Trenners wasn't there. If he was he didn't perform well. But gee he is a nice sort of chap though. Not a nasty type if you know what I mean.

From reading that link can we just employ Emma Quayle part time. She seems to be on the money quite often or should I say much more often than our recruiters over the 2000's? And that would not be hard.

What are you attempting to say?

a) Trengove doesn't have good endurance, or

b) Endurance is not important for an AFL footballer.

c)you miss the point...endurance is irrelevent if you've lost your ability to impact

he can run around all day ...for nought....pretty close to now actually

Endurance IS important but not the first requisite

Youd hardly know Trenners is out there... currently

The problem with slow outside players is you never get them the ball unless you move it quickly and precisely to take advantage of the gaps they run to. Trengove is a victim of the team the same way Watts is. Not excusing them for poor performances but unless we know how to use Trengove he may as well not be out there.

The main disappointment I have with him is that he's ordinary as an inside midfielder and he's slow to get up and down and move around not just slow in a straight line.

We have to perservere with Trengove as we don't have much else but I think we need the team to improve to see a spike in his performance.

Can't remember the last time I enjoyed watching the footy.

U watch other teams play well and think if only.

I am really gutted there just doesn't seem to be any end to it.

Having FOX is not good for me - I watch other teams and think of the 'what if....'

It's tough right now being a Dees' supporter, but the working week awaits.

We'll be right..

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
