The Clash Jumper farce

We should wear dark socks/shorts and our normal top when we play the Saints, and they should wear their normal top and white bottoms.

no one mentioned to you , Logic has no place in all of this ?

Can anyone remember the last time we won a game wearing that white jumper, because I can't? We need to get rid of it because it is cursed!

Surely you jest

Can anyone remember when we won a game in anything?

Nothing to do with other sports. All to do with TV. TV audiences especially casual ones won't stand for jumper clashes in this day and age of trying to maximise audiences.

Almost all AFL decisions are made with TV in mind. It's not an evil conspiracy it's just about maximizing profits. I don't blame the CEO, it's his job. I blame the commission for not giving extra guidance to the executive about keeping traditions and where to draw the line in not selling out for the dollar

That argument gets blown straight out of the water with

Collingwood vs North Melbourne both verticle stripes black & white/white & black or blue & white/white & blue

Essendon vs Richmond when Essendon are the home side they both wear predominantly black but Richmond have a thicker yellow sash and some yellow down the side

It's a farce

A two part question PSD

My has no one done it?

And if they have why have they not been successful if it is easy?

I would say like half of demonland they are afraid of the AFL

a) They will take Queens Birthday off us

b) They wont give us good timeslots

c) They will not gives us handouts

d) They will give us an unfavourable draw

I say fook em they need 18 teams and now is the time to stand up to them, all of the above they give us nothing except Queens birthday, they have to give us handouts for their benefit not ours, it is there you go the bigger clubs get the blockbusters and better tv timeslots and this is your money from the tv rights we get for having 18 teams. If it's good enough for Collingwood it's good enough for us and I don't care about them being a cash cow call the AFL'S bluff and make them come out and say that publicly which they will never do

Isn't the clash with the saints from behind where their all black is closer to our mainly navy blue with small amount of red.

So on TV when they players are seen from behind (90% of the time) it's harder to tell them apart?

I thought that was the reason, could be wrong tho.

I could always tell them apart prior to clash jumpers coming into vogue. Even on TV.

It must have been overlooked. Why can't it be so simple where they have a register of all jumpers, and what each club wears, when they play each other. And the clubs are notified.

I'm assuming they already have this being the AFL (almighty integrity and all), and someone was asleep at the wheel.

Again...

Yes, they need 18 teams, but that doesn't mean it can't be the current 17 and another team, such as Tasmania, Canberra or even a Northern Territory team

And they give us plenty - such as millions of dollars in support, Peter Jackson and more games at the MCG than our performance and drawing power deserves.

And if we really did need to go into battle on something with the AFL, I'd rather it was something really important - not what our away jumper should look like.

I can't believe people get their knickers in a knot over an away clash jumper. We have so many problems that rank ahead of a trivial matter such as a jumper.

I reckon our current clash jumper is the best we've had. I wouldn't mind wearing it in every away game.

Yep to all the above BBP

The curse started in 1965....long before DumbItriou and his henchmen tried to Americanize our game.

We should wear dark socks/shorts and our normal top when we play the Saints, and they should wear their normal top and white bottoms.

OMG....don't you understand, Rogue?? That is logical which definitely rules it out at AFL HQ.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
