Jimmy played all of the practice matches for Melbourne so he wouldn't receive the AFL's permission even if the club wanted him to play.

Meanwhile Williamstown is no longer affiliated with the Bulldogs so it will be interesting how we go against them.

Ah didn't realise that, yeah it will be really interesting, i suppose you lose potentially quality AFL players being in your side at times to gain consistency, port Melbourne certainly show it's possibly to be a very competitive team in the VFL without an AFL affiliation

I guess some of those who complained the most in the Toumpas (or was it the Wines) thread would be saying that he wasn't included because he isn't up to VFL standard :-(((

Hope Gawn has a big day. It'd be great to have him back against the Saints to give us a bit of an edge in the middle.

And we could do with him up forward.

Would love to hear that Viney, JKH and Clisby were the 3 best on ground and all players got through with Gawn and Salem impressing. That's the dream.

Hang onto it tm everything else has been in short supply the last two years

......and some seriously tall marketing in the forward line in the absence of Clark, hogan and maybe Dawes. Max at his best is a terrific mark. I would not be surprised if they played Spencer,Gawn and Fitz in the first round

Down here at Cranbourne and the Casey Scorpions Development League 2.4.16 lowered their colours to Williamstown 22.15.147. That follows last week's single goal effort against Box Hill Hawks suggesting the team's young and inexperienced and the Scorps will lack depth in 2014.

The team sheets for the Casey Development League team:-

2. Jackson Anderson
3. Pat Rosier
4. Sam Waters
9. Nick Lang
11. Lachie Meadows
15. Sean Corrigan
16. Ryan Morrison
18. Brenton Hillard
19. Luke Thwaites
22. Bryce Rutherford
23. Tom Corry
25. Jake Thomas
27. Angus Scott
28. James Davidson

33. Andrew Murray
34. Kelsey Currie

For round 1 selection I would say

Viney

JKH

Tapscott

Clisby

The rest have had very little pre seasons and will need a few weeks in the VFL to get some match practice and form.

Of those players I would say

Gawn

Kent

Strauss

Tapscott will have the better chances of getting into the team should their form suggest it.

Salem and Hunt look to be players that will play the majority of the year in the VFL unless they show unbelievable form

Jack Viney received a knock to the head under a pack, went off, came back and off again. Looks like a mild concussion but it's a bit of a worry because he missed some of the pre season with much the same thing.

Casey 0.2.2 Williamstown 1.3.9 - lots of turnovers and untidy football.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
