Internally , i think Rawlings could be the one , but i did hear a whisper over summer that Ling is just getting a years experience at Nth Melbourne, and will consider being Roos successor, possibly joining the Dees next season.

If it would be Ling or Simon Black you would think Roos would stay an extra 3 years to teach and mould them into senior coaches.

Btw anyone give Lenny Hayes a chance? I would love the club to seriously chase this bloke hard at years end. His experience would be so valuable to the likes of Viney, Toumpas and Salem

Roosy's hearts not in it,he just wants to make a quick 3 Mil and move on and it's giving our 2 most important Key Position players no direction whatsoever.

By mid year,Roosy should commit to a 3rd year and then it's not an issue as most clubs only offer their coach 3 years

Really?

I'd be pretty happy if Stevie J retired at years end and got the gig.

That's a bit harsh and probably uneducated. He's been touted as a future coach by many already.

People in the civilised world don't use that word any more. http://www.r-word.org/

Stevie J is a loveable larrikin. Bit like our own Bernie Vince. He also went a lot further off the tracks as a young player than you'd want but as a senior player has had a great career. I think he'd have great ideas about ball movement and skill develop and be able to convey them. History shows defense wins championships and a stout defensive game is needed but you need to attack well to defend. But I'd also doubt he's keen to retire in the next year or so which is probably the biggest reason he's not in the hunt yet someone like Lingy or Lenny Hayes would be.

If Lingy got some real experience not just token stuff at North this year he becomes a candidate. I'd be accepting but a little nervous of Hayes or anyone else with just 2 years under Roos and no other coaching experience.

haha, its not 'politically correct' plenty of civilised people do things that arnt politically correct.

anywho, my statement is a bit harsh, i wouldnt say uneducated, but never the less i don't think he is a smart man. he's a smart footballer, but that doesn't give you a license to coach.

id much prefer lingy, i would prob opt for black and hayes before stevie.

For what it's worth I don't think Ling, Black or Hayes will be in the race. They need time coaching, if Ling was serious he would be coaching now instead of just dipping his toe in the water.

As for Stevie J, he's said to have a pretty good footy brain but maybe he is a bit like another gifted half forward Micky McGuane who also had a good footy brain but was not able to use it as a coach at AFL level for whatever reason.

I think we have Roos for at least 3 years, maybe more.

picking a good player who has only been out of the game a few years is a high risk strategy

we can't afford another shot in the dark senior coach

i'm not convinced on this apprentice coach bit especially making it public

we just end up with the buckley circus with the media constantly circling and sniping

we just don't need to commit too early

I'm pretty well connected to the Gold Coast Suns through my Brother in law working in the Fitness department and he says Bluey McKenna has only been offered a one year extension (until the end od 2015) because Paul Roos becomes available and that Malcolm Blight and Paul Roos go back a long way (i'm not sure of the connection there)

Maybe nothing but clubs do plan around other coaches becoming available, which is why Freo tied up Ross Lyon for another 4 years.

Brett Kirk has to be the one IMO.

The next guy must be familiar with the Roos/Stone/Sydney model.

He is midfield coach of Freo and spent 2 years under Rossy Lyon.

A bit wishy-washy as a commentator 2 years ago, but Ross Lyon would have objectified him I reckon.

Must be the one.

He took over from Pagan in 2007 and tanked the bejeezus out of that year - to get the PP and Judd with it.

They were 4 and 7 after 11 rounds and then 4 and 18...

too true

Pagan was about to blow they're potential priority pick out the park. he was sacked.

the Kreuzer Cup was alive & well.

The Hun today said Bluey has got a 2 year extension and quoted the CEO.

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
