Demons season opener v Saints

dee-luded

I hope this is finally the beginning of a new chapter of the MFC. On paper, we should annihilate them, but how often has that been true over the years in round 1? We should've won against Brisbane in Jimmy's honour, too. It means nothing until you're on the grass.

I'm cautiously optimistic but it's hard to see the light at the end of what has been a very long, very dark tunnel. I just hope it isn't the train. The club has suffered enough and for too long. It's time to begin a new era.

Bringing the whole family to the game on Saturday night, as we live in country vic just wondering the best place to park near Etihad. Plan to get down there about 5.00, find something to eat and then wonder over to watch our boys start our season off with a win.

I'll be ordering in a nice woodfired pizza, and ripping open a couple of sparkling ales, all in the comfort of my living room here in Sydney... at least this year I only have to wait until the 6th April before myself and my son can see them play at Spotless Stadium (Homebush) - free tickets already confirmed by MFC, so lets hope they were worth the money.

Wondering the same thing oneday.

I usually go by train nowadays however with a 7.45PM start and late finish I am not taking a train.

I would prefer to arrive home in one piece, I will be down that way on Friday and I am planning to check it out.

Someone will no doubt make a suggestion if not look out for my comment on Friday.

Much appreciated od, really looking forward to getting down there and sharing with the whole family (who of course are all members) a nice meal, watch an entertaining and winning game plan, and then top the evening off belting out its a grand old flag come games end and flying the scarves out the window for the 1.5hr trip home.

Hardtrack isn't the GWS v MFC game at Skoda Stadium? I am trying to organise to get there for the game as I will be in Sydney on other matters around that time. If I can sneak off unnoticed I dont want to find myself in an empty statdium

In footy speak having our big 3 forwards out gives an opportunity for their replacements to step up. In the past few years that would have meant nothing and ensured just an even more comprehensive drubbing than would have been the case

Now obviously we would be are a way better side with Clark, Dawes and Hogan in the team, but if ever there was an opportunity for Fitzpatrick and Pederson to embrace more senior roles then this game against an undermanned Saints is the one to do it. Both will know they have a run of games to prove their worth.

Fitz is athletically gifted with a decent set of hands. His kicking style is bog scary but it does not seem overly effect his accuracy in front of goals.

Pederson has, by all accounts, been in the top group of trainers over the pre-season and has shown some renewed vigour for a contest. He is fit and can kick. He is lucky to have this opportunity to prove himself. The next few weeks will determine if Cam will be still playing AFL footy in 2015.

I actually don't think it matters to Howe if the big 3 play or not. We know what he is capable of, is apparently as fit as he has ever been and will do his thing no matter who he is playing alongside. I also think he will get the same match up no matter who else plays with us. He is both old enough and played enough games to accept some extra responsibility.

I'm not a fan at all but I think Byrnes will play over JK so he, Blease and the resting mids are going to have to provide lots of defensive pressure

It is not all roses but not doom and gloom as well. This is an opportunity for players to step up and it isn't just down to the forwards. The midfield will need to ensure some quality and quantity of delivery

If ever this makeshift forward line can find some confidence and perhaps even fire it will be this week.

Don't worry Hood, if you go to Skoda and I go to Spotless, we will both end up at the same game... http://www.austadiums.com/stadiums/stadiums.php?id=115

OD hope you can see this - cant multi quote on my phone.

There a few spots:

1) Aurora lane - its free but not alot of spots and fill up very early

2) Fox's car show building - they have limited parking for around $10 off memory

3) Under Etihad - dont bother. Its $30 and a s**tstorm to get out after the game

4) Private parking opposite Etihad under ground - too expensivr

5) Woolworths at the end of bourke (keep going past NAB and down to the end) - $12 and about a 10 min walk

6) Repremand centre - apparently free but havent been and about a 10-15 min walk

7) Street parking - most of them expire around 6 30 -7:30 and are 1 - 2 hrs so will cost you maybe $5 unil its unlimited. More near the NAB building

It just depends how early you get there. Personally i search for street parking near NAB and if none i drive further down and pay the flat $12 at Woolworths (becareful of your entry tjme and when thr flat rate starts!)

Hope this helps!

I have been told by a Saints supporter who attends trainings and stuff that Gilbert is a long show and Fisher is very underdone and without our big gun forwards he doubts they will risk him,

massive hole in a side isn't it, Hayes, Dal Santo, Montagna, Wellar, Stevens, Goddard, that's a very good AFL midfield not playing

Don't forget about McEvoy too

As much as I hated him and as much as I found it difficult to have a good word for him, they are going to miss Milne up forward.

If you live anywhere a semi frequent V-Line service, consider going by train. Easy walk from Southern Cross. Just watch the timing of the trains home. Might make it a long night if you just miss one after the game and have to wait an hour for the next one.

Not in WA this year McQ? We had something like 7 years of that prior to last year - and when they finally got a game at Skoda, they screwed up the mailing of the member tickets (that is, they didn't get sent).

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
