I hope we dont use this cap space to pay Frawley to stay. He is a tough defender though not worth more then 600k imo. I hope we use it as a warchest on the open market

I'd love Chip to stay - even with the total and utter crap thrown his way by our supporters - but what can we sell him? If the Hawks came round and offered him 500k for the next 3-4 years there is nothing we could do that would improve upon that offer.

The only thing that will keep him at the club is loyalty and the club, somehow, showing some light at the end of the tunnel.

Back on topic though - it would be an absolute shame if Clark retired from the game, although everything points in that direction. Clearly the big contract and the big injuries have weighed him down to the point where there may be no return. The two positives are, if he retires, that he can get himself right and happy again, and that we get a nice big chunk of salary cap space to hopefully sign up the kids and land a big fish or two over the next couple of years. It's something anyway.

If Clark is willing to come forward and take a pay cut whilst on leave then I think it says a great lot about his character. AFL contracts are pretty tight and in the players favour, he'd probably have a chunk of accumulated sick leave from his career to date that he could take whilst on big coin and possible then turn up and give minimum effort and pocket most of his pay day.

If he restructures his deal to much less money (possible with incentives if he does return) then it will be good for everyone (except his manager).

If he retires then I'm not sure footy was the real problem. If he asks to be released from his deal ASAP with minimal pay out and then moves back to Perth with the possibility of AFL for Eagles or Dockers/WAFL footy in 2015 then again so be it.

Maybe he was a ticking time bomb and 4 years and more was too long to hope for him to stay fit and productive but after watching his half season in 2012 I refuse to believe he didn't enter in to his contract with perfect good faith to deliver.

Take a pay cut? Ssshhhhhheeeettttt why would he? He signed a contract, he was injured at his work and continues to get injured at work, it is potentially the last (certainly the one and only big money) contract to play footy he'll ever get. I'd keep taking it too to provide for the family long term.

I hope it turns out to not be a retirement. That would be more shattering news for the club, and the fact that this sort of thing just keeps on happening is just getting beyond a joke for us. Look at what has happened to the key forwards we've brought into the club for the last decade or more.

I would not question his character. When he first injured his ankle there were plenty of dark noises around that it could be career ending.

I used to be a big James Frawley fan.

His all Australian selection was 4 years ago, and lets face it, he hasnt come close to it since 2010.

If he continues to draw out contract talks, he will do himself more harm than good.

He was never a great user of the ball, but seems to be getting worse.

His lack of awareness of opposition players around him is quite possibly the worst in the comp.

I'd be dissapointed if Melbourne offer him a big salary. Dont get me wrong, i dont want him to go, but he really needs to work harder and get some of his best form back.

What will really disappoint me if in a season or two he feels better and goes back into the system and ends up at another team. He still is only 26 after all.

starting to get sick of this poor mitch thread if he is depressed about not being able to play so be it being injured is not the end of the world just ask Gumbleton ,shaun rehn David shwartz,Trent henchell, and so on these players overcome numerous serious injuries and played again.And after what I have been through the last 6 months being depressed because I cant play footy doesn't add up to me must be more to it
