I was referring to the Scully compensation picks.

Pick 14 comes before pick 18 in a draft.

That's how "Toumpas, Wines, Grundy, Viney" would have happened.

If you need me to simplify it any further let me know.

All been discussed before. Viney would never have slipped to the second round if we didn't deal with GC/GWS.

Fantasyland.

Thats rubbish imo. Viney was not worth a top 2 pick. Shoot me down but clubs did not rate him that high.

You think they might have rated him pick 13 (ended up pick 14 after Goddard compo)? Martin & Hogan cost picks 2 & 3, GWS already had pick 1. Pretty fair chance 13 was the sweetener to lay off Viney.

How could such a deal even occur? It's blatant draft tampering so there's nothing official that could lock them into it, just taking them at their word.

And if they wanted to, they would have regardless.

The far more logical (and painfully obvious) scenario was GWS weren't willing to gamble a top 3 pick on Viney for the sake of "doing the dirty" on the MFC.

Oh no, here we go again. The knowledge our supporters possess is unbelievable. How you don't get a gig running your own AFL Club is amazing.

It's a discussion site. That's what we do here, discuss and pontificate all things MFC.

If you don't like it no one's forcing you to read it. Then again we could always do with a few more smart asses and snipers on here. Not related to Satyr by any chance?

Welcome aboard junior

I reckon we should close this thread it has all been said multiple times.

The guy is a physical and mental wreck.

Open it again in 2015 if there is something new to discuss.

Quite sad that the members don't get to know a single detail about what's up and absolutely no idea on a possible return time frame.

Just nothing. I wish Mitch all the best but as members paying over our hard earned to support the club, as well as turning up and spending more time/$ at the games we attend, surely we are entitled to know some basics like the above on any player, let alone our highest paid player?

I agree mate, close the thread. It's a whole lotta stuff about NOTHING..and we know NOTHING

Early picks are only as good as the development & culture a club provides....

How many of our failed picks from the last 6 yrs would be still playing in other clubs.. Eg haw, Sydney, Coll

Morton was not even in the top 10 in running @ WC but was a top 5 for us!

so why did we pick him thats the question isnt it You must agree our early picking has been appalling

Shouldn't that be in the Hogan thread?

Mitch Clark is not your employee - and even if he was, there's a limit to what you have the right to know. Membership gives you a fridge magnet, a scarf, and admission to games. Nothing more, nothing less.

Whilst I somewhat understand the view I would ask is there no defacto agreement by effect between a player and his club that essentially goe to the idea that as a player, people will be interested in how that all goes.....or in Mitch's case, doesnt.

Everyone is entitled to their privacy but its a bit like a actor having a go about publicity. Yes theres a line , but theres an expectation also.

Anyone taking money to play footy at this level must expect scrutiny. It cant be all a one way street

...and maybe a vote if they ever hold an election but 'bing' you need to go into the marketing department. With a proposition like that we will break the 40k ceiling in no time.

It may have been part of the Hogan/Viney deal...all things are not always as they seem.

I tend to agree, i reckon the deal was 3,13, 72 for Hogan, Barry, 20, 54, not bidding on Viney and letting Toumpas slip to 4, it was well known that Toumpas was considered the second best prospect behind Whitfield but suddenly dropped the week of the draft

Would he still be in the top 30 of the draft?

I never said he was. I'd just like to know when our highest paid (and arguably our highest rated) player is likely to return or whether he will return at all. And if the club doesn't know the answer then say so rather than sugar coating it with expressions like "extended period of time" and "may require some time to overcome". This could be any length of time....from 426 till eternity.

Maybe i'm expecting too much for a professional football club in 2014. I should just expect to turn up and not know who is playing from one week to the next.

Under your regime we should just bend over a barrel and take it up the clacker then....we could even play this bloke in our line up and i should be happy as long as i get to pick up my Schwab inspired retro (Fitzroy marooon) scarf each year ....

Absolutely because the recruiters would still have the same history for the kid, and they would be smart enough to know the sort of team he plays in

I don't know what everyone else is think on this site but I'm starting to have a little doubt in my mind that Mitch Clark will retire at end of the season.

Not that I want him to leave, I love Mitch and his carriages attack at the ball but as a Demon support I'm always looking at the worst because that's what I'm use to.

So lets say Mitch does leave, we have $750,000 in the cap.

If we finish 2014 in good form we could actually get a big fish.

Who is free and who do we go for.

His contract was probably heavily front loaded, might only free up a couple of 100K

FMD it doesn't matter what has happened in the past ie what pick we gave up or how much $ he is getting, the fact is we have him.

He is injured and has personal issues. The club will deal with it and if he plays again its a bonus. I have a lot of faith in this new structure we have and if anyone can help it would be Roos.

If he doesn't play, yes its dissappointing but that's footy sometimes and we move on.

Clark played with Nathan Jones like passion. It is rare to see in the red and blue.

If Clark doesn't get back, we'll all be disappointed, but as it stands he is a MFC player - so let's get behind him.

If he does return and can play injury free, he will reward us ten fold.

I don't know why people go on about money, we've had highly paid squibs on our list for a decade now, at least Clark plays with passion and courage.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
