Aidan Riley (Adel)

Delisted today I really like the way this guy plays. He's a clearance and tackling beast who has the explosive clearance game at SANFL level and I think can progress to AFL as a stoppage player who has the athleticism to play as a forward as well. Skills aren't amazing but that's not his game. Only 21, previously a rookie and NSW scholarship player. Unfortunately broke his ankle at the start of only his second game this year (10 in total) so will need a long time to rehab but for a rookie pick I think he's more the worth a chance.

From my name a rookie rookie thread.

Big fan of this guy. Real tackling and contested ball midfielder and whilst skills aren't amazing he's got the speed and X factor to be handy forward or on the outside.

Unfortunately broke his ankle just when he got his chance this year for the crows and therefore he'll take a while to rehab but I presume the

Only worry is have we overpaid by adding him to the main list when we could've waited for him to become a rookie but really I think he's worth it and I expect strong showing at Casey at least in the second half of the year once he's fit. I'm not so worried about a better player being available at pick 57 but more worried about a repeat of last year when we get a Hannath on board for our first rookie pick and someone trumps us in the PSD.

Don't we only have 3 list spots, and aren't we supposed to use 3 draft picks minimum? Anyone explain?

One of Jetta or Nicholson will have to be delisted to make room to use necessary draft picks.

They will be able to be re-drafted or rookied.

Rookie upgrades count as picks so right now we will have pick 9, pick 40 and then read out Clisby's name as the 3rd draft pick with pick 57 or whatever it is.

Never heard of him nor seen his name mentioned once in the rumour mill thread. Goes to show that either our footy department keep their cards very close to their chest, or that the multitude of poster's with "good sources" are clearly not quite what they're cracked up to be.

What does that mean in respect to draft picks and more players to be delisted?

Either someone is getting delisted or Clisby will be added to the list via Pick 57.

Seen a bit of Sturt this year, Riley is a real workhorse, not a flashy player, but very hardworking, grab it, get it forward type. Very good SANFL player. Think he played a bit for Adelaide across half-back as well. Outperformed Kerridge in the games I saw for Sturt, Kerridge's decision making and ball usage was a real problem for me. I'm not comparing him in terms of ability with Andrew Obst, but he is similar in terms of physical attributes and plays a similar way, at SANFL level at least.

It says on the website he broke his arm; was it the arm or ankle?

I think it was already agreed by the club that Clisby would be promoted with one of our later picks (probably 57). So who's going to be delisted? Can we still do that or is that period over?

Tad underwhelmed by this pick-up. As always I'm happy to be surprised but feel it's a little overkill on the whole 'we need big bodied clearance players' thing.

He was pick 58 in the 2010 Rookie Draft, and played 12 games at the Crows, who I'd say are far from deep in that department.
I've seen nothing that separates him and I don't particularly see why he wouldn't be available as a rookie. After the Jack Hannath experience I'm guessing we learnt our lesson to bite the bullet.

Congratulations to Aidan, as in this video you can see he has some good lower body strength and I'll always back anyone who puts on the red and blue, but up front I'm certainly not jumping as high as Dom or even the qualities Cross brings us.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
