Anyone know what these tweets from the HUN's chief football writer are about?

@Robbo_heraldsun: Poor form by has been who never was Michael Davis, writing for the age, taking shots at younger journos. Pathetic Mick.

@Robbo_heraldsun: And next time you see them you will say 'hello mate, you well'... Two-faced prick you are

@Robbo_heraldsun: he's my mate @GerardWhateley and he wouldnt respond to article but happy to on GWs behalf ..,

Not as if Robbo hasn't been involved in enough controversy this weekend:

AFL boss says journo shared tape of expletive-riddled tirade

Every time I read Robbo, I keep wondering if he is dyslexic! How the hell is he a print journo?

Everytime I don't read Robbo, I feel smarter. I've said it before on this board but I will continue to repeat it . Robbo is an ignorant dick!

Depending on how it was obtained the actual recording of the phone conversation could be a problem. In which case it will never be admitted or see the light of day.

I'm kind of with Robbo on this one. Sure go ahead and tee off on Whateley for race calling. If he's not much chop (and I haven't listened to him) then he's a part timer who's over exposing himself. But to add a cheap shot insulting Robbo's intelligence with Whateley criticism is exactly that. A bit of rivalry between the papers is fine but just a plain snide attack is exactly that and therefore Robbo has the right to be angry.

Could't read the Australian article, what was the gist of it?

The article is about an investigation being carried out by the Herald & Weekly Times into whether Robinson played a recorded telephone conversation between Demetriou and himself to other sporting and media figures.

The conversation centred on questions Robinson put to Demetriou about the Essendon doping scandal and in particular about an allegation that he tipped off former Bombers chairman David Evans before the club "self-reported" for the use of performance-enhancing drugs (the allegations have been denied by both Demetriou and Evans.

The tape, which allegedly contained threats and expletives from Demetriou, has been destroyed.

Robinson has denied playing the tape to others and it appears that the investigation (undertaken by Adrian Anderson) has not uncovered any evidence that the journalist shared any of the information on the tape as claimed.

Jack, you're a lawyer. Is there anything wrong with Robbo playing the tape privately to people?

I'm not sure but there is a possibility of a breach of the Telecommunications Act. However, if that was the case then Demetriou would be going elsewhere than to Robinson's employers.

The complaint is possibly more likely to be about an alleged breach of journalistic ethics or protocols in place between the AFL and the media.

Thanks for that. As much as I was appalled by some of the tactics of propaganda and misinformation about AOD9604 adopted on AFL360 by both Robinson and Whateley, Mark Davis' attack on them in his column is way over the top. Interesting that he's also had a dip at Demetriou about the AFL chief having a giggle about the dwarf incident.

About 3/4's of the way through a bottle of Jack, I'd say.

Classy as always, Robbo.

Does anybody really care about a bunch of over-exposed voyeurs, who hide behind journalism "privilege" arguing among themselves about who is whose mate, and who can wee higher up the wall??? We have no choice but to listen to some of them because the conduits (modern reporting media) are the only ones allowed decent access, but do we really want to know anything at all about their allegiances or bickering? In the words of the constable at a crime scene: "move along, nothing to see here".

Agree. Don't know who this Mark Davis is but it seemed a very cheap article to write and his one legitimate point about part timers staying away from race calls was lost in the personal attacks.

Gossip and scuttlebutt naturally draw human interest and insight in to inner workings are often interesting. I often don't mind a Jon Silvester piece on his dealings with shady crime figures and even more shady journo's and police from back in the day. But you at least have confidence then that you are reading a legitimate story from a verifiable witness.

But this article goes too far and then Robbo falls for it hook line and sinker and keeps it going. Poor Robbo also needs to learn that if he keeps playing the fool on AFL 360 struggling over the pronunciation of reasonable simple words for a journo whilst the erudite Gerard sits next to him then occasionally his intellectual capacity will be challenged.

I guess it is a gossip column which by definition no-one takes seriously... Gerard is one of the best sports journalist. If he is judged poorly it means the rest are so so far behind.

...BTW found the part about Caro's and Hird's dogs rapture for each other and their owners mutual disdain a great laugh! Oh, if only there had been a video camera near by...

hahaha robbo clearly missed the barb about "whateley having the intellectual luxury of working with robbo".

I suspect at the grass roots that was what he was most annoyed about.

Surveillance devices act, depends on whether the recording device was external to phone or not from memory..

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
