Too many "Gin and Tonic" swilling pheasant hunters around the place in those days. Takes a long time to weed out that culture. Not enough of the"roll the sleeves up and get the hands dirty" types which is why we haven't won a flag since 1964. :( Hopefully more culture change for us coming up soon and then we may taste some success.

Ones not allowed to roll up one's sleeves in the long room old chap.

One problem is that I think Norm Smith was still there when Sheedy went down to training in 1965 or 1966 and was dismissed. So I wouldn't be blaming the G&T boys. Odd that he didn't pick up Sheeds potential as a hard arsed centre man to replace Barass just when we needed leadership. I think there were still some decent players running around post 1964 but lacking leadership. I can think of Hassa Mann, Townsend, Johnston, Vagg to name a few. However it would not have stopped the rot over time.

So that's why we haven't won a flag since 1964! I've been wasting my time on Demonland reading about our poor recruiting, poor coaching and poor player skills.

All starts from decent admin structure hence the transformation that is going on now. Poor admin means poor recruiters being chosen, poor coaches appointed and poor players being recruited to the club.

& I think this is why the AFL are having a hands on approach to the Mfc, whilst keeping the madhatter wannabe's at bay.

Be interesting to see if he gets rookied, probably not but you have to think what might have been if he didn't get that knee injury in the nab cup a few years ago.

He seemed to be doing a bit better up until then but he stopped in his tracks after it.

Talking about knee injuries...How many games has Tom $cully missed for GW$ because of his bad knee??

What a joke that was....we were treated with complete disdain by the AFL for that shite...

A 9 week knee injury.....SURE. That is why $cully has an attitude problem and always will

He agreed to all that sham during 2011

No hanged don't have to think; I know. The good judges rated this guy before his 10th game.

Case long closed.

Yes and they rated him highly. First year saw multiple 20+ possession games and five games I think where he kicked multiple goals. Oh and he picked up 4 votes in the Charlie. Who the hell really complained back then.

Sad thing for cale is that the game changed from free flowing back to contested and he was found wanting. He still gave is best more than most know and was continually crucified by his own 'supporters'

Unfort

If you took off you rose-coloured glasses, and stopped clapping so loud, you might have heard the negative doomday forecasts about Cale.

Diagree with all your points Stuie. 1. We chose this kid before Dangerfield and Rioli based on his Larke Medal effort. 2. He ran away from Lade, pure and simple, you can put any spin you want on it. 3. I watched the guy live for 5 years, he had the odd game where he ran & created space but fair dinkum , he never got involved enough or layed a tackle of any substance ever. None of that is made up champ, it is simply my opinion on what I observed. Anyway agree with most lets Move On. Brad Dalzeil anyone?

you are completely and utterly wrong

There is an image out there of Josh Hunt carrying Cale Morton like a bag of wheat. That photo is probably more indicative of why Cale didn't succeed at AFL level as opposed to that Brendon Lade footage.

This one?

The one and the same. One is a tanned, muscled, fully grown man found in most football clubs aspiring to be top eight. The other looks like a human pipe cleaner or walking frigging penis.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
