Exactly, now I'm not knocking anyone's financial situation or circumstances but for mine the only memberships that should be counted towards a club by club tally are the 11,17 or 22 games.

I think it's to do with people that pay monthly rather then all at once, first monthly payment due 2nd Nov. I got a form sent with auto roll over plus upgrade options they wanted it in this week.

Thanks Al. I usually pay in one hit so that maybe a factor. I haven't received any paperwork yet so I guess the next few days will tell.

Apparently there's some cut off tomorrow for a prize, I just had a free moment to try and call to renew and sign up the better half.

I'ts not surprising. About half of those will be MCC members members who ticked the joint membership box during the finals season (like me).

I think this is probably the real reason for our large membership number. No other club gets that space on the MCC form, and that renewal happens in August, meaning that by then there are a stack of MCC/MFC members already signed up, before most other clubs are even thinking about membership for the upcoming year.

Nonetheless, good to see people getting on board.

After all we did start life as the Melbourne Cricket Club Football Club (and it is a shame that we didn't stay as such). Absolute travesty that Collingwood, Richmond & Co. call this their home ground whilst we get shunted off to either play home games at Etihad or Sunday 'twilight matches'!

Disagree. Members should be counted whether they attend or not. Not everyone lives near a ground where AFL is played or can attend for other reasons (such as physical disabilities) and those people should be encouraged to become members and made to feel welcome.

It doesn't matter how much someone pays to be a member from the point of view of counting - just that they have the passion and want to belong.

I don't think we're on the same page. Discussion was centred around who has the most members. From a fans point of view it's for bragging rights, from a clubs it's financial. 11(meaning your clubs 11 home games) 17(meaning all Victorian games) 22(meaning all games) in my opinion should be the only memberships counted when acquiring a total. No one is suggesting that people that can't attend or have disability or are black or white aren't welcome, but if clubs are counting 3 game memberships or pet memberships it gives a misleading figure.

For what's it worth I moved to Sydney four years ago but keep buying my membership with the knowledge I will only get to the G about 4-5 times a year.
