If we got Michie as well and added a certain best 10 player in Vince as well another in that same category as Michie in Lyon (ie. clearly around our best 22 and at an age to be ready to go with a solid preseason) then I'd certainly be happy to keep pick 2. I'd even consider whether Cross is right for us and probably wait until closer to draft time to think about him. Could come on board in a playing and development coach joint role and that playing could be at Casey not at Melbourne.

I think we are underestimating the development of our existing players under Roos; there is talent there and we could see some dramatic improvement in the playing group.

Trenners should be better if he can get a full pre season in.

CO-CAPTAIN Jack Trengove says he didn’t realise how much his foot stress fracture would hinder him until he returned to the field last year.

Trengove, who suffered the injury on the eve of last December’s pre-season camp to Darwin, missed much of the post-Christmas pre-season.

“In hindsight, I probably came back too quickly or too fast in the whole scheme of things,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“If I had my time again, I’d spend a couple more weeks rebuilding and getting that match fitness … but I put a lot of pressure on myself to try to get back for the start of the season.

“In the end, I might’ve come back a week or two early, but it is what it is. I felt as the year was progressing along that I was slowly improving and it’s one of those ones where you get to the end of the season and from a club point of view, it’s one of those seasons, which we needed to end, when it did.

I was talking about Vince.

Another aging fringe midfielder. Forgive me for not doing backflips.

Fringe midfielder? Has played almost 60 games over the last 3 years. Won't argue that he has been inconsistent and he isn't a star, but outside of N Jones he is better right now than any other midfielder on our list. Would be a good addition for the right price.

You want some optimism? Excuse me while I search for some. I'm not getting any with Vince I give you the mail.

I'm talking about Lyons quite obviously as Vince is 28...

I would see Vince as the steak knives to another trade or a low pick, probably the former.

Sorry can't agree. Bernie Vince is still a gun player and it shows how little a lot of Victorians watch Interstate Football when they deride such talented AFL players. Bring him in with Jarrad Lyons and pick up a couple more youngsters in the draft and Cross in the Pre-Season and we might actually start to win more clearances and amass more Inside 50's.

Vince for our Sylvia compo pick sounds fair.

In my opinion draft picks outside the top 10 are grossly overrated.. what are the chances of us actually landing a 10-year, 150 game player with a pick in the 20s? Slim. Very slim.

Vince is 28, so what? He's hardly a grandpa and that means he has at least 3 years and 60 good games in him. He automatically becomes our 2nd best mid. He's no star but we need players like him.

Have no interest in Lyons because I've never seen or heard of him (the brains trust would obvs know a lot more), but Vince is low-risk and improves the team. Do it Melbourne.

Would have said the same as a Swans supporter when Roos brought in Richards.

However I'd have said the same also when they brought in Andrejis Everitt, Tony Armstrong or Mitch Morton.

(They have played a role but been far from spectacular)

Maybe you have to roll the dice a few times and accept there'll be some misses?

I'm not against this move.

Has a Victorian girlfriend apparently

I would've thought Vince would be like Franklin....he could move to any team to be with his girlfriend from that state!

Are there any Dees players who managed anything like these figures this year?

Jarryd Lyons has been on fringe of Crows team all year. in and out. Played some good games but squeezed out. 21yo boy from Sandringham.starred for Glenelg in SANFL.

What position does she play? I hope she's an on-baller.

yeah doesn't like it down back apparently.

She's an in and under. Gets her hard ball gets

Versatile utility; happy at either end but prefers it when it's between the arcs.

Okay.....

I wouldn't trade more than a third rounder for a 28 year old.

He did win the club best and fairest in 2009 though right?

Yes he did.

Third rounder is a bit low for someone who is a regular midfielder averaging 20 touches. He isn't a fringe player, he has been best 22. Second rounder would, and should, work.

From the AFL website:

"The Demons are also in discussions with Adelaide midfielder Bernie Vince, although not for the No.2 pick"

Good to hear that pick 2 won't be a part of any move for Vince. Second rounder would be a fair trade.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
