Found this little snippet from his Academy coaching days. Very insightful, you would think this would be a style of lay next year. Expect a lot of free flowing play which is good to see instead of the defence choke which didn't work under Neeld.

Sorry, Dazzledavey36, but I now dislike you. You have officially ruined the preseason for me. I've never met you but you have given me that glimmer of hope for 2014 that I was determined not to allow myself. I was determined not to be burnt again by raising expectations based upon preseason changes. You have now ruined this for me. How could I not have more hope after seeing Roos at work - even if it was at junior level.

Great video clips of a great coach with great communication skills who clearly and without compromise demonstrates the run and structure of modern footy. I cannot adequately communicate via a keyboard how impressive I found Roos' clarity and simplicity in those videos.

I can see Jones, Trengove, Clark, Frawley, Toumpas all hanging off his every word and growing week by week.

Sorry, DOF, didn't mean to lure you into my growing expectations. Even though it was to juniors I found Roos very, very good in those clips. I remember a decade or so ago seeing video of Dennis Pagan prematch and I got a similar kind of vibe.

I'm usually too optimistic, but personally I didn't see anything special in those videos. Surely what he was saying was pretty bog-standard and spoken as you'd expect many a coach to speak. I didn't see any obvious connection with the players either. Not saying that wasn't there, just that it wasn't apparent in the videos.

Feel worse now I hope?

This begs the question, who are our gut runners. Certainly, it bring Bleese into the frame, but also Watts, Toumpas, jones, Tyson, Grimes, Hogan, Trengove, Cross.

Well, surely the whole point of this is that our current list needs to change and change radically. Bleese certainly has the speed but not the endurance or for that matter commitment. Trengove has the commitment but not the fitness. Toumpas has the skill but not the speed. I have included Hogan as I am hoping he plays a long leading CHF role in view of his huge engine, and plays a forward mid field role in doing so. Likewise Frawley as an attacking CHB which he used to play under Bailey. Cross, Tyson and Vince will do it anyway - that is just the way they play.

All these players will need to change their ways under Roos. I hope they do, not least Sam Bleese.

I am just shattered that these young teenage boys do the basics of footy that all us supporters have been complaining our professional boys didn't do for years.

What have we been paying the millions of dollars for coaching that didn't exist.

We should really embarrass our boys and show them how to listen to a coach and play the plan.

Not a lot that I saw. I went 5 or 6 times as I worked nearby. If I got there early I would get bored waiting for players and coaches to wander over from AAMI at their leisure. No sense of urgency or regimentation. Maybe all the teams show up like this. Then you spend 30 minutes watching them to stretching, trotting around the ground. There would be a few drills here and there but I never saw anyone busting a gut or being forced to execute skills under intense pressure. The way we were playing on game days I thought I might have seen a few sessions that were a bit more intense, physically demanding, where players would need to make quick decisions in heavy traffic.

Yes, to some extent you are right there Sue, and if it was cutting edge it wouldn't be put online by the Swans Academy. It should be standard practice at most clubs and would be nothing new to those in the industry. The question is, have these techniques been drilled in at the MFC? We know Roos can do it at senior level, but these clips make it clear that he is a good communicator and instructor at all levels. And the obvious connection with the players was the keen line up for a hand shake with the guru.

Or am I taking this too seriously?

Ive seen a fair few training sessions over the years, though not so many under Dean or Mark. One thing I did notice at these was the lack of what I saw Roos doing with the kids. I have to assume there was some coaching along these lines but if the way we've played over recent years is anything to go by either there werent too many of these clinics or no one listened.

Perhaps they'll listen now !!

Roos' pattern while at Sydney was to trade his first or second round draft pick to get a 22 - 24 year old player from another club, and this player would end up straight in the 22. Shaw, Richards, Mattner etc... Usually it was one of this type of trades per year but someone with access to stats might be able to clarify this. He actually used draft selections later than no. 30 to pick up young players. If history is any guide he will continue to use this model. With a lot of trades on offer this year it could be a real win/win for MFC.

So I reckon we will only trade in 2 players:

- 1 young gun midfielder (plus other pick) for our no. 2 pick - Swallow, Sloane, Adams

- 1 older player for a much later draft pick - Chappy, Cross, etc...

The fly in the ointment is our play for Heath Shaw. It sounds like MFC are going hard for him and this could mean a third trade.

Middle rounds draft picks will pick up youth.
