Colin Sylvia is yet to decide if he will remain at Melbourne

I think it is more than reasonable that Colin should want to play finals football successfully in his career. His problem is that he would be no more than a fringe player in the like of the Swans, Hawks or Cats. he is no Jarrad Rivers. We would certainly not get a first round pick for him, more like third i would have thought on current form and unfulfilled promise over a whole career. Clearly, Roos sees potential as he does on much of our list, but that is all it is. Colin has very little value out there at the moment, and he should realise that in sides in the top four, no matter what they may say to him in getting him across.

He would be far better staying with us on say a three year contract, learn under Roos how to be an A-grader (which i have no doubt he could be), and play in the finals series next year or the year after and be part of a Premiership in 2016.

He will not get that at any other club.

One further note, the two years we have had priority picks, if Col leaves we will have one left - Jack Trengove. Scully, Mclean left, Sylvia potentially out the door. What does that say for the system, or more particularly the unique incompetence of the Melbourne Football Club.

Can we name any other club where that has occurred. I think not.

I have such a different perspective on both Watts and Sylvia now that Roos is in control.

Want both to stay. Partly out of wanting us to develop talent, partly just out of pure curiosity.

You could say the same about Kirk, Goodes, and Bolton under Eade, how did they end up as players after Roos took over?

Neither of Watts or Sylvia were taken in a surprise draft order, so they both obviously have talent. I don't know if you've heard, but we haven't developed our players very well....

Please don't compare him to Rivers.

Every time Rivers entered the field, he gave his all.

Nobody can accuse Col of that.

Rivers deserves to play finals, Col hardly deserves to play AFL. A hugely talented yet lazy unaccountable player who has made a living coasting through his career

Hhhmmm not sold on the 3 years to a flag but I assume you are still drunk after the Roose celebrations so will forgive.

I'm not sold he will stay, if I was him I'd go he has made more money than he should have career to date so go for a flag like Rivers. We would miss his mature body but not the end of the world from

where we are cing from.

The comment about the priority picks is just such a disgrace and a legacy that so many in our club need to carry with them. An amazingly poor development of players, culture and ability to get us over the top. Far out the Saints almost won a flag with the early picks they had!!!

I honestly was not fussed about losing Sylvia or Watts, but now the curiosity and hope has been rekindled.

I would love to know Roos assessment of the current MFC players list. Sadly though that will never happen for obvious reasons.

IMO if a player really wants out then let them go, the key is to try and make them want to stay and the appoint of Roos as Coach will greatly assist in that area. Next step will be to win a few more matches.

Roos has said that he wants Watts and Sylvia to stay yet has been silent on most of the rest of the list. I supect both will stay and may both have higher regard for the opinion of Roos than that of the majority of Demonlanders.

I totally agree.

And I want to see a senior player actually leave the club on really good terms - not to end his career at another club or with angst directed at the club a la Junior, Rivers, Moloney, Yze, Robbo, Green, White, Bruce etc.

The way we've handled our senior players over the past 6 or so years has been absolutely bloody hopeless and it really highlights how poor the culture has been.

Geez I hope Sylvia re-signs and ultimately ends his career with this club.

The only players we exited harshly and incorrectly IMO were Junior and senior players like Green Rivers and Beamer that were grossly mismanaged by Neeld.

White, Yze, Robbo had been great servants of the club but were finished at the AFL level in 2008/09 and were told their time was up even if they could not see it themselves. The problem was that our terrible recruiting and development from 2000 onwards robbed us of any capable developing leaders to come through to assume the gaps left.

And even when we had Yze, Robbo and White at their peak, there were few real leaders past Neitz, Junior and Whelan (when fit). The culture has been issue since Lyon, Viney and others retired and we have struggled to cover or replace that.

To add to that, one of the most important steps we have to take as a footy club is retaining senior players and treating them with a bit more respect, as Ron points out. Unless we can find a suitable replacement and then some, we should do what we can to hold on to him.

Well there has yet to be a successful brain transplant that i'm aware of other than Frankenstein's monster and well.

I'm pretty sure we've had a few successful heart transplants though.

Look you never know..... and the reaction by Demon fans if this does take place, well i'm not sure, it might be something between ecstasy and jaw dropping disbelief a little like...

Im not surprised at all. Actually this year hes tried a 'little bit more" almost to about 3/4 of his ability. Hes PROVED himself a very ably average player...Whoop'd de doo !!

Two first year mature age draftees finished ahead of him in the Bluey. That says it all for me.

Let him go and use the funds on other players hopefully in the FA market and dip back into the mature age draftee pool.

He's a pretender and I won't be concerned if he goes a single iota.
