DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The best and most consistence performance over the season must go to the

Water Boy!

I just can vote for a single player in a team as bad as that.

6 - Grimes ( rarely made an error )

5 - Davey ( wonderful second half )

4 - Frawley ( did what was required )

3 - Watts ( effective with limited touches )

2 - Toumpas ( improved with each game )

1 - Dunn ( occasional brain fades , but gave a damn )

Why on earth are people voting for Dunn. The opposition only scored so many goals and a bunch of them can be directly related to Dunn. No defense on Dickson - Q1. Pissweak tackling attempt on Jones Q2. No defense on Cooney Q4. Even if he tried he's just not mentally smart enough to have any discipline. Surely we can find some players better than him today.

Davey

Grimes

Frawley

Kent

Watts

N. Jones

Amazing how well Grimes plays when hes played in his natural position hey?

Yep. And him kicking well at Etihad is a bit of a miracle, the tight confines make it hard for a guy whose not a naturally brilliant kick under pressure, but he did well.

Oh and throw some votes to McKenzie someone. Started the fight that put a bit of heat in the game and also kept Griffen to 16 whilst getting 15 of his own. That's not easy.

He's smashed Griffen and Ablett, possibly the two best accumulate and break away from contest mids in the last month and without help. Yeah he's probably not a top 4 team quality player but you can make the 8 if a guy like McKenzie shuts down the best.

Why is it that Watts can kick 4 and still seem like he's not doing anything?

One free kick, 2 lead out marks to the fat side including one beautiful trade mark 2010 Aaron Davey delivery, 1 hard run to the pocket that was very good. But only 3 other possessions.

So the answer to that question it was because he hardly did do anything besides the goals. If he missed 2 then it would've been a very average game. His good goal kicking made it a nice game.

But I'd argue that big Tom Campbell from the dogs did more and got 1 or 2 goals, but he genuinely halved a bunch of contests that forced McDonald to defend very hard. And he brought the ball to ground beautifully. Watts can't do that and I doubt he ever will. That's why we need him up the ground and only a burst player inside 50 where his leading and accurate goal kicking is handy but not enough.

Even Jack Gunston at Hawthorn who is a high class undersized small forward rotates to half forward and the wing because you can't just be a one trick lead-mark in space forward these days.

Yes kicked four but he went less than full bore at a couple contests that I saw. And in contests against bigger opponents when he was not on the break he looked lost. It is interesting what his future will be. In a top side he would get a lot of delivery out in front of him. And his conversion is top 10. Imagine if Cloke had his conversion rate. However if he was playing for the Hawks or Sydney or say Geelong he would also have to play 10 or so high intensity games against the other high performance teams and I really think he would struggle with the physical intensity of those types of matches.

6. Frawley. Passion, dash and touch of arrogance. Umpires almost killed him tonight.

5. Grimes. A hard running four quarter game

4. Watts. 4 goals great effort. Ran his guts out and at least ten times was one versus 2 or three alone in our forward 50. But his attempts at contested marking are often laughable and his defensive running is usually non existent.

3. Kent. Not a great game but he took the game on.

2. Davey. Some of his plays tonight were the Flash of old.

1. Trengove. Not a great game but he was creative, and was a big part in stifling the Doggies stoppages in the 3rd quarter.

Because the good players can make it look easy

6.Grimes - IMO he aint a mid and is much better playing in the backline

5. Frawley - was hard done by on a few occasions but just does the simple things as a defender

4.Davey - some great pressure in the second half and a couple of chase downs like Flash of old

3.Mckenzie - another solid tagging job

2.N.Jones - another solid effort not his best but just does his all for the jumper

1.Toumpas - the kid has developed through the season and the stint at Casey seems to have given him confidence to take the game on a little and draw a tackler before feeding off

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
