Im more worried about brisbane then Collingwood.. all we need to do is get into Freemans ear and tell him to say to Brissy i want a trade in 2 years.

You mean like draft tampering... not sure if you're comment was tongue in cheek or not DD, but I at least am still a little raw about such suggestions whether offered in humour or not because our amateurish efforts (you can add incompetent, laughable, or downright embarrassing as well) of trying to short cut the system have come back to torment the club and us supporters.

Reading the Hun piece on Freeman today makes him sound like a logical fit, and he may certainly be our desired player, he may also well be available at pick 9, but if he's snapped up before then I doubt it's the end of the football club as we know it or our fortunes, just like picking him at 9 may also not be the magic bullet either (staggering I know). The trade down from 2 (where we had much more certainty) to 9 must have been done in the knowledge that Freeman along with 2 or 3 others were hard to split and that while he maybe ahead, I doubt that Taylor and Viney will upend any tables on draft day and throw their bums in the corner if he's already been taken.

Roos has consistently talked about club culture about building to competitive efforts. In his model no single player is a key to a premiership. The Swans one two with lists that many just didn't rate as having enough talent. Hawthorn while disappointed to lose Buddy, still would have won last years premiership without him. If Freeman is available he'll be a very good selection if not it will be someone else the club thought would be thereabouts. There's no certainties with 18 year olds, hence Roos reluctance to bet the farm on them.

I spent about an hour ( between pours) just watching and rewatching some vids of Freeman. What I like about him most is he's just a machine. Yes there are shinier more glam types out there but this guy just works away plying his trade in a very consistent manner. Some players go OK and do one or two 'special' things a game maybe but then they fade into shadows at times.. I dont want that. I want a well oiled combination in the guts that will in a very mechanical manner get the ball to the forward arc. let the theatrical magic happen there.

Elements I really like.

Vision. He sees the ball not just where it is but where it is in the larger context of where it needs to go next , and then after, often following up his own good work. Hes a thinker this lad big tick

Engine.... runs....runs...runs quick...runs... runs...runs....runs up, runs down,, runs up..runs down....... Doesnt stop....another big tick..hes ready to go in the middle...

Astute His disposal actually affects the game. ( in a positive and meaningful way ) Many players can rack up possessions and look good on the stats page but what did they contribute ? Watching nathan he handballs to the correct side of players.. They dont get too trapped very often . He kicks to advantage. he ll loft it over to provide run on or kick it at your chest.. No worm burners.

Good size hes a little shy of where you might want a kid to be, but in 2-3 years he'll be EXACTLY the size and build to be a B+ plus mid. He may get mongrelled a little to start in AFL but as his experience builds and with encouragement from the likes of Chunk he find his feet. He'll grow a tad more and I think be exactly the hard running slightly taller style of mid Roos craves

Style Nuts and Bolts, WYSIWYG. Hes not a Pendlebury, but a Shuey type i can live with :)

Attitude He seems to have his head in the right place, confident , not cocky, hungry but realistically patient.

Origin. Doesnt hurt that hes a Victorian lad

For me this is the pick I want at 9.. make it happen Melbourne

Interesting to hear the AFL's "resident draft expert" Callum Twomey on their podcast yesterday saying he though pick 9 was reaching for Freeman.

Suits me.

Makes it more likely that he'll be there for us.

I can't think of another player that would better complement our current midfield stocks.

He obviously fits our outside-run requirement now that we have inside depth. But I suspect all the media-hype will now make Pies (at six) or Brisbane take him at No.7.

The big worry now is that Bontempelli may go to St Kilda at No.3 which means the Pies and Lions will have to choose between Scharenberg, Billings and Freeman.

Hopefully a late-run of McCarthy hype will see the Lions take him.

I dont think the clubs take the slightest notice of the media and their "estimations" or drafts etc. Each club will be going on its on recruiting reconnaissance and research.

The clubs all already know who they want and have their pecking orders established.

Lewis Taylor would compliment any bottom 8 sides midfield stocks.

VERY classy young kid, Sam Mitchell like.

Couldn't even compare Taylors skills Vs Freemans, hemispheres apart.

Taylors height kills him, but he is a footballers footballer.

The hype on Freeman is ridiculous, pick 12-20 is about right.

I'm getting the feeling that Freeman must be firming for Melbourne's first draft choice.

I haven't seen Aidan Riley play but he's another recruit who's supposed to be an inside midfielder.

Sooner or later we are going to take a player who can break the lines with pace. Freeman seems to be the one who can do that.

I believe these are his correct details for height & weight

Height: 184cm, Weight: 85kg

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
